Hi

Does anybody knows when a new version of DVD Companion will be released? There's no hint of a new release at the author's website and that program is very useful to me. Or if somebody knows of a similar program to import cast & crew info from IMDB, I'd appreciate very much some info about it.

Thanks !

Manolo

(I'll handle this one Skip. Just continue your nap. )

Iwashiro, I hope you are aware that using anything from IMDB is forbidden with DVD Profiler. Any version of DVD Profiler. Including this version.

So I cannot in good conscience answer your question. It would be in violation of several standing regulations, including the Cole Act of 2005.

It depends. Personally, I use DVD Companion to get the data from IMDb, but as a starting point that I edit further against the actual credit of the movie.

So the Act of Cole 2005 doesn't apply in this specific case.

I saw on the website www.dougweb.org the Cast/Crew Editor of DVD profiler Companion.

I downloaded the latest Companion and when I open the exe file the program ask me to
give the location of the exported XML FIle and the location of DVD profiler.

I insert al the information and click next but nothing happens.

I already put a comment on that website but no respons.

Can someone please explain how to work with DVD profiler Companion because I want
to use the Cast/Crew editor that is showing on that Web page.

Regards,

DVD Profiler Companion was written by Doug for DVD Profiler 2 and was sadly not updated for Profiler 3.

Thankfully not, Tom. Ther is too much IMDb data still extant in the database, an uddated version would only encourage that problem.

I am of course refering to the main functionality of the Profiler Companion: To generate html pages of your collection using DVD Profiler skins.

The Problem is not that the companion was written for DVD profiler 2.x or not.  I can still use your Cast/Crew editor.

I Just want to use a program wich takes the Cast/crew Data from IMDB and puts it in DVD Profiler.

Can I Use the companion for that like shown on the website of Doug and If so how? or is there another program to take the data from IMDB.

Nico:

Except that the licensing for IMDb says you CAN'T do that LEGALLY. We do NOT scrape data from IMDb. Nothing will be done as far as Invelos is concerned because of the licensing problem, it would be Ken's call but were it me i would not even allow such a potential plug-in anywhere near this site, not wanting to give the appearance that the company is sanctioning illegal behavior.

Skip's completely right, and moreover: if you would care to check the crew and cast lists IMDb gives against the actual movie credits, you will soon discover that IMDb is full of inaccuracies. That's another reason why the Invelos Contribution Rules stipulate to take cast and crew from the actual movie credits only.

Personally I would like to see any submission that includes IMDB as a second or third source not even get released for a vote. They should be declined right away.

As long as those that do get accepted, I think it leads others to think it might be a valid source IMHO.

And remember when it comes to humility, I'm the greatest!

Bobb:

I agree with you but there are some users that think some data, even it is bad or might get Invelos sued is better than no data and to some degree this seems to have infected....ummm...the database.

Bad data is bad dat is bad data, and I don't care what the source of it is. If there is bad Studio data and the rest is OK then it SHOULD be declined, no questions.
