384924394857 The Journalist 1 & 2
684923975359 The Journalist 3 & 4

These are DVDs of Nollywood films distributed by Afromedia Productions in the Bronx.

I'd show pictures, but trying to post images from Google Photos hasn't been working.

If all info about Afromedia Productions is correct, then this 'distributor' is also quite questionable.

When searching on Google Maps Street View I see a small Fruits & Vegetables store on that location.

If this was the location of the distributor, then that was most certainly no big one.

Their Facebook page only has 33 followers and 32 likes.

Furthermore, the website can only be seen back in 2009 via Wayback Machine.

And searching the EAN numbers also gives 0 hits on Google.

Taking into account those questionable data, chances are again that these releases are bootlegs as well.

Also, both of those UPCs have invalid check digits thus it appears that these are bootlegs.

Thanks rdodolak for the additional info.

According to the calculation of the first UPC, the check digit should be 9, but in this case, the UPC of "The Journalist 1 & 2" shows 7.

The second UPC does show the check digit 7 instead of 9.

So both are indeed invalid.

I went to the place many years ago.  They were basically a hole-in-the wall DVD shop that went out of business when streaming became popular.

It's no wonder they were rejected. They look like cheap knockoffs and bootlegs, DVDs to be avoided unless you cannot buy official releases.

I'm particularly enjoying the "E - FOR EVERYONE" rating...

From their FB page: "we carry only authentic African Movie Copies" (emphasis mine). Also love the mistakes in the movie description on the back cover.

Btw, if I think about hole-in-wall shops, I have some other thoughts about it.

Maybe the answer to CinemOpera's issue with rejected contributions is to do a little research and, if the disc could be a bootleg and/or the distributor may not be legitimate, keep the profile local and don't contribute it.

Yep, indeed.
This already has been addressed several times, by several people, like this post.

All I have to say is that Nollywood movies are usually made by amateurs who run successful electronics stores in Lagos.

Well, if I only speak for myself, I have quite a few movies, which were made by amateurs, but nevertheless are quite good. Some of them even were distributed with DVDR and these I did not submit to the Profiler DB, although of course added to my personal and local DB.

I am not familiar with Nollywood movies and chances are that there are some rather good ones at that.
But given the fact that the rules clearly state that homemade, counterfeit, and/or bootlegs are not allowed.
And in this case, some have completely false EAN/UPC numbers, which have been clarified by several other people, and yours truly.
And yes, sometimes it is quite hard to distinguish genuine from the fake, and sometimes particular companies even screw things up themself, like many of these Dollar Tree movies (DVD and Blu-ray), which sometimes all share the same UPC# for several movies.

On a personal note, I have seen your profile and the personal homepage you are referring to.
So, to me, you seem to be quite an intellectual and intelligent person, even with a Master's Degree in film and literature (correct me if I am wrong).
And now I have a better understanding of why you are searching for these quite obscure (for us western guys) movies from all around the world. And I only can applaud that kind of dedication to see and collect much of the lesser-known movies.

But again, while these could, in fact, be quite some nice, heck even great additions to our DB, if there is something wrong with them, whether it is an incorrect UPC/EAN or something else is quite off and not permitted within Invelos guidelines, then the only thing you can do is add them to your personal profile, but can't submit them online.

And I have read your other post regarding Amazon, well sometimes they screw up badly and I am not always that fond of them either. But I'd rather buy something from Amazon, with quite some insurance about the whereabouts of, for example, the way of payment and sending of the packages.
But sites like www.dvdplanetstore.pk are IMHO much shadier to do business with and I wouldn't even trust my personal address to them, let alone my debit and credit card information.

Anyway, to conclude this message. We are here to help each other to the best of our knowledge and while abiding by the contribution rules.
So please, if you have something on which some of us can help you, don't hesitate to ask.
