I've gotten two errors attempting to add classical music DVDs based on UPC/locality:

"Please check that the UPC and locality are correct"

They are.

5099921658297 John Adams: American Classic
7318599916781 Christian Lindberg: The Total Musician

In both cases, the discs are formatted for worldwide use and intended to be compatible with both NTSC and PAL players.

The first one is a European EAN number.

When searching for 5099921658297 I do find the following on Discogs:

Quote:
Label: EMI Classics ‎– 2165829
Format: DVD, DVD-Video, NTSC
Country: Europe
Released: 2008
Manufactured and printed in the EU

Also, given the length of the number, you could see that this ain't a UPC number for the U.S. and Canadian market.
Note: Since it is NTSC format, it is quite understandable that this release is for the U.S./Canadian market. But it is not uncommon to see NTSC discs in Europe as well, mostly when it does concern music-related DVDs.

On the second one I could find the following info on the Dutch site vindmuziekenfilm.nl:

This cover does show a Swedish URL, therefore chances are this is also a DVD for the European market, hence the EAN number.

Here also is a quote from the barcodestalk.com website regarding the differences between EAN and UPC numbers:
Quote:
In the world of retail sales there are primarily two barcode formats used, UPC and EAN. The UPC format is 12 digits while the EAN is 13. These two formats are predominantly used in their own regions, the UPC is used only in the US and Canada, while the EAN is used everywhere else globally.

So chances are great that both discs can't be added to the U.S. or Canadian locality, because of the EAN number. But I am not 100% sure (if anyone can correct me on this one, please be my guest).

The website upcitemdb.com does show the following info:
Quote:
EAN-13: 8 431560 100145
Country of Registration: Spain
Brand: East West Entertainment

Hence this is also a European release.

These will still be a foreign release even if you can obtain it from US sources.

I was also told the UPC 1 2001 10 10 3 10381 for Spring and Chaos is not acceptable either.

That's a bizarre one to me.  The cover says "East West Entertainment LLC, 7230 Coldwater Canyon Avenue, North Hollywood, California 91605."

That isn't a valid UPC or EAN.

Then how do I add it as a foreign release?

I suspect The Total Musician may have had a sticker with a UPC on it, but it's open.

You need to find where the DVD was first released. The John Adams one looks like a UK release, so you need to set the country as United Kingdom for that EAN.

Google is a comprehensive resource!

That is probably because it's not a valid barcode number/EAN/UPC. Are you sure the case doesn't have another number, such as 0645573008727?

Can you post a photo of the back cover?  You can add it by Disc ID.

According to the EAN codes 5099921658297 is UK and 7318599916781 swedish...
-> Country codes
Complete list of Common Names  •  A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1)
