Sometimes it really amaze me how no one want to understand no one in this forum. 8 pages on this you gotta kidding me...

The question isn't to rewrite the rules entirely because some users want to do it their way, but to update the rules immediatly when a decision is taken in the forum... At least this is how I've understand it from the beginning.

I don't understand why anyone can have a problem with this, since a minority of the users frequent the forum the majority don't even know that some rules had changed.

I don't see why we need to discuss this for so long, unless this is for going off-topic and continue with the same old argument from 2 years ago about anything one user or another like or don't like about DVDP.

Holy cow, YES!

So there is no confusion from me, here is all I want.

1. Rules updated on the rules page when they are changed/elaborated on in the forum. I run/help run a few sites, this is not a hard thing to do, by any stretch of the imagination.

2. Rules made more clear. No matter how it's spun, the arguments in the contribution thread show that no one person understands the rules completely. Some may think they do, but they don't. If the rules were more clear, much of the debates would go away (one would hope).

3. Stronger moderation. Right now there is none. Yes, a few posts were deleted in this thread, but for the most part the severe lack of moderation hurts these forums. There are so many good people that help on the forums, but they get overshadowed by the one loudest voice. Unfortunately for Invelos, that is the voice that is associated most with these forums. A stronger hand in moderation would alleviate that. (And, yes, I suspect I will be moderated, too, but hell, I have no issue with that if it helps questions get answered without the bullcrap.)

4. COMMUNICATION. My God is it really that hard for someone from Invelos to pop in and say "Hey, we are reading this and we are aware of your concerns." or "Hey, nothing will change, suck it." FFS, why is that so difficult?

You win. This is exactly what the thread is for and I'm glad most see it that way.

If I don't agree woth the ruling, who cares? I'll do it Invelos way (from the rules section) for online, and change what I want my way to the local. I know some think if you don't like it, just stay 100% local but I feel I should give back to an otherwise fantastic program and community.

I feel the same. But think the rule changes that have been made in other threads should be updated in the Rules page. And I do think that some customer service should be a given on any software.

That I can agree with as it is just part of the on-going maintenance of the database.  Compilation of decisions for consistency and reference is a good thing and can be referenced for merger into rules or just as a separate reference from the core rules.

This thread seems to wander like many here from the original idea presented which is lost somewhere along the way

1/ I have translated the program, and it is available in the downloads section.
2/ I have translated rules, in 2006  version, and posted this translation on this forum where it still can be consulted by anybody who will be able to find it. Since I think it is quite impossible to find it for somebody who doesn't speak english, I do not see the interest to update what I already translated, until Ken put those translations in an accessible place, as I requested, but was not read by people who see red each time I post.
3/ French translation will not solve the problem for Spanish, Italians, Greeks, Portugueses, or any other user who do not speak english. When I post, I do not only think "French". The problem is more general.
4/ That is exact that I would prefer, if Ken opened a place for translation, to work on something using common sense. But it is not much more difficult to translate stupidities, as it is not difficult to contribute per the rules, even if you have to rebuilt everything for your local.

I agree with the rule of thumb that the rules be updated when a ruling is made should be a ground rule which would also rule out the endless debates about the rules.

Probably be a good idea not to rule out majority rules.

In fact, people wrote that they were not interested by my updates. Don't you remember kind remarks of some users who wrote I am dishonest ???

Sorry, but from a neutral standpoint, this would make me reject your translation as a whole for I wouldn't be able to trust it.  Since you state that you strongly disagree with most of the rules ..., there's no way I would be able to know that you haven't slanted what you did translate towards what you believe.

When I read the first post, I read it as that he would have no part in any rule that he disagreed with.  At the time, it really rubbed me the wrong way (I was having troubles sleeping) which cast a negative view on the entire translation.  No disrespect was intended and indeed, I wasn't calling Surfer dishonest but I also couldn't help but feel that because he wouldn't translate the rules he didn't agree with would inpact how he viewed the rules as a whole when (as pointed out in another post in the thread) translating phrases and ideas that don't have a clean translation.

I will repeat what I have said  before. Surfeur the only common sense you can refer to is yours, I can guarantee you that my common sense is far different from yours, and Diocs is probably different from mine. Common sense is NOT universal, it is dependent upon many things, the teachings of our parents, our environment, our society and so forth. You could say by your common sense a man should not open a door for a woman and I would tell you you are crazy.

So, please stop with that phrase it has no real definition. I know you believe a lot of things are common sense and i could list some them for you, but they are NOT common sense to me. Or are you now going to try and say that my common sense is wrong and yours is right. biut wouldn't be surprised

Why not you do it all the time. Have you actually been to a country outside America before just to ask?

I actually don't ever see Ken doing this...posting translated rules I mean.  Unless he understands the language used, there is no way for him to know that the rules say what he wants them to say.  As such, he probably wouldn't sanction them.  I know I wouldn't if it wre me...well, maybe if my mother translated them into Spanish for me I would, but other than that, no.

Can't we all just get along?

(sorry)

I believe the idea that the rules should be updated on a reasonably regular basis based on the agreed upon decisions from the rules forum makes a great deal of good sense. It is nearly impossible to adhere to rules that are not in the easy to find rules. Searching a forum makes no sense at all.

At one time, updates to profiles were only available once each week. Now they come up nearly every day. If updates to the rules come reasonably often, it would be easier for the person(s) updating them. If the wait is more than a month, it will be far more difficult. Perhaps an every other week, or twice monthy check to add those changes, additions, and the few eliminations from the set of rules? That way, all of us who want to contribute, and (as importantly) those who vote on contributions, will know the details of what is correct and what is unacceptable... specifically, why.

Some of contribute a lot of stuff... some of us less... some of us rarely... some of us for the first time. Same with voting. But all of us need updated rules in one easy to find place. How can there be any question of this? If the owners/programmers have no time/energy for this, there must be at least one volunteer who can monitor the rules forum and update the rules regularly. If not, why is this thread this long?
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Cliff
