99% of my collection is boxed and in storage

Ok, I'm confused.

You say that your collection is in storage....then how are you going through it doing audits? How can you be up to 'C' as you've stated?

Are you getting things out of storage to edit them and then returning them to storage?

If so - why can't you give examples of T!M's supposed bad behaviour? If you're not getting your titles out of storage what are you basing your profile changes on? Memory?

Just curious!

Skip is not contributing cast and crew changes, he is only contributing things he can verify from the cover scans...mostly overview formatting and MCs...at least that is what he is doing for profiles that I own.

He is comparing the existing cast and crew with what he has in his local profile, not the actual film credits.  That, at least from what I can deduce, is why he isn't giving examples.

But even those are wrong. He recently submitted a cover scan and overview correction for Cabin Boy, but the overview was wrong. I voted Neutral with reasoning.

He needs to get off his high horse if when his submissions aren't nearly as accurate as he claims.

I stated my observances. When you say the same kinds of things about me, you call them facts.

I didn't criticize you personally or question your motives as you are quick to do of others (eg. "destroying the database", "garbage notes", "abusing your voting privilege", etc).

BTW, James, if it has ever happened with me I suspect it is a rare, I don't work that way.

However, this issue with richie and yourself is somthing that i have been watching for weeks on each and evry chance you both get. You iced it for me, when you got notes edited to fix a problem, it did not take a new Contribution just edited notes, and you changed your vote to neutral. I then realized that you were voting from an agenda, what it is, I don't and i don't care.

Skip

Do not make assumptions about me please. You would not know if I voted neutral, or if I hadn't returned to a profile to vote at all. I am happy for Ken to publicly show my voting, I have no agenda personally, or in conjunction with James. And to dispel your spin and muddy the water by actually using facts, I have voted yes on many of your submissions once corrected.
I realised from the fact i had to tell you twice the footnote *1962 in one of your submissions that you were only using rear cover scans to amend profiles. Based on that I would not vote yes on the titles where you were also changing studios, based solely on viewing a credit block on rear scan not the actual disc. Please note I didn't vote no either.
Do I take pleasure that of the last 18 profiles I have seen you try and amend, I have found 14 with errors? No. As I said in my comments - just please check the text prior to submission.

Anyway this is getting tedious now. As you have said to Tim twice here, please view and heed the poll results, and be a man and admit you were wrong to make accusations about me violating my voting priveleges.

Richie:

No I won't lump you with James nor he with you. You leave me puzzeled. Yes you had to tell me twice about the footnote, I did not pick up on it the first time and almost missed it the second time, a PM where you could have been more clear would have no doubt helped, it wasn't intentional.

I don't proofread typically, it is not my strong suit, if I spot something I will fix it immediately, and I really don't want to miss corrections that you think need to be made richie and a PM is the surest way to get my attention, like it or not. I worry about missing something that needs to be fixed, but at the same time I am comfortable with a partial contribution if you refuse to Communicate, that's your choice not mine. I have not blocked you or James or anyone else. This is a team effort richie and i take it very seriously and I like to fix things. It's up to you my friend, I will do the best that i can to fix things that bother you, but a PM is far more efficient when I am dealing in the quantities i am right now.

And as a side note for everyone's benefit I hope. Please pay attention to your Studios particularly Fox, there are two different credits for Fox and they are subtle but they are legitimate. There is Twentieth Century Fox and Twentieth Century-Fox, please enter these correctly, there are numerous listngs which i am certain are incorrect but I again I can't be absolutely certain with the DVDs in a Box in storage. PLEASE.

James:

Please. I am not quick to do anything or say anything about anybody. I did not respond to immediately to my gut reaction to richie for some time, or to you either. As for some of my comments, let's take one"destroying the database", for example. Now try and look at from my side. 1) We factually KNOW that Cast/Crew Creds are not universal necessarily, how big a problem it is is not relevant, we factually know that it is a problem, 2) as soon as I discovered that it was a problem I ceased my experiment, 3) we have a user or users who have decided to make global changes to what they do not own based on what they do, despite knowing that it is a problem, 4) there is even a poll that says not to make changes to what you do not own, 5) I think the user(s) means well, but is badly misguided and his actions given what we KNOW are certainly destructive. So what am I left to conclude, James

It really does look to me like he doesn't care about anything or anyone else, just whatever his particular objective is, and that appears to be setting his collection as some sort of Gold Standard. I don't like it but what other conclusion can I come to. I call it like I see it. When I think you are doing your Howard Cossell imitation    on me, i always pay attention and weigh it and try to see where you are coming from, BEFORE I try and explain myself. Now I will say, and don't take this wrong, James, that all too often you make very little attempt to try and understand where I am coming from, then very quickly communication breaks down. I do the same thing with everybody, I try very hard to see where they are coming from.

Wow, I am so done with this.

Nobody's data is any good, everyone is screwing up the database, personal attacks right and left.  In my opinion, in order to contribute well it's important to stay informed.  Unfortunately, that requires dredging through this cesspool of a forum.  All right, so be it.  I'm so tired of reading this crap that I'm just not even going to bother anymore.

Thanks Ken for a great program.  I look forward to working on my database for years to come.  The rest of it?  Well, thanks but no thanks.  I'm sure I'll still lurk around but my participating days are over.  I'm just not willing to get down in the mud anymore.  I know it's just a few bad apples, but I don't give a crap anymore.  When respect is gone, so am I.  It's just a fun thing for me, but knowing that the mere act of contributing opens you up to this kind of nonsense is unacceptable.  And it's not just this one particular thread.  This has been building for some time now and, in my opinion, has reached a tipping point.  At least we've reached my particular threshold for abuse.

Enjoy folks.  I honestly don't know what kind of pleasure can be derived from this, but everyone is different.

Later.

Um...6 minutes after I made my first post in this thread, which was not directed at you, you responded and said I was ignoring the rules and making them up as I go along. Thanks for showing restraint for 6 minutes.

All of my other posts in this thread, except for one when I defended T!M, were in direct reply to accusations you made directly (or thinly veiled) about me.

But I will bow out and let you have the last word if you choose. Sorry to mdnitoil and others who have been disturbed by the back and forth.

Here's a question:

Why do any of us bother contributing?

A. Because we want the online db to mirror our local one?
B. Because we want others to benefit from our work.
C. Because we feel guilty if we do nothing to improve this 'user built' database.
D. Because we get a kick out of seeing our names on a contribution.

I could guarantee that ALL of the above apply to different people.

I, personally, fall into B...but that will eventually stop.

Here's why...with the current version of Profiler once I audit the crew and submit it I can NEVER accept a further crew update on that profile.
Why?
Because I use the box to overwrite the crew titles: eg, I will have Make-up Department Head rather than Make-up Artist.
If I accept a later update (one that possibly adds a credited as) this will be overwritten. Thus rendering all future updates and the online database totally useless.

So, all these pages of talk about improving the database are kinda moot for people like me. I'm doing TV edits at the moment and it irks me to know that I will never be able to access further updates.

I am B as well, Neill. And I do the sam with Crew data now as well, which  means no updates here, and i would like to see more users include the ACTUAL credits in their notes, so that those of us who do so can cut n paste. When my DVDs get out of the boxes, I have a TON of work to do.

It's generally A for me, but when I come across low-budget horror that isn't in the system, I generally submit it because there's a few of you with some good taste here that can benefit from it.

I don't submit cast at all anymore, though, as I rip mine straight from IMDB for the linking.

But Alien, you don't have to copy IMDb, you can track 10,000 titles there for FREE and poof you have your linking built-in...along with all their errors too.

BTW, Alien somehow I am not surprised that you are an A. Unfortunately that is not possible, unless you develop your own program. There are many thousands of Profiler users and many of them want the Online to reflect their personality and tastes and it simply cannot be done. The closest that profiler can ciome to that is your local, where YOU control the Rules and the data for YOURSELF, when you upload your collection then anyone who views your collection will se the data they way YOU are handling it.

The system as Ken designed attempts to set up something that will accomodate both the need for standards for ALL users for Contribution purposes and the ability for each user to have control of his/her data.

Profiler's acting database is not much better, and the linking to other actors on it is horrible. Until a fix can be resolved, IMDB data is leagues better for my needs. But you can blah blah hate imdb blah blah all you'd like. I honestly don't care. I keep it local, so that's all that should matter to you.
