I really think that if Ken saw that his users are really unhappy and show it, he would, at least, think about it and see what to do...

Ken is either not interested in anything around DVDpro right now, or he is absent, for what reason ever.

Anyone who throws in another DVD management programm which can import DVDprofiler data would catch all the constuctive people around here at once.

The problem comes from the few "very happy ones", that say they would like things change but do all they can to avoid any modification. In fact, seeing their collection explains most of their attitude (refusal to understand that the program is a nightmare to manage when you have non-English speaking titles).

This is not a problem of the people, but a lack of management: started with really poor database design, continued with wish lists never evaluated and either approved or declined, followed by totally intransparent goals up to a total lack of forum management, which leaves them to the destuctive part and trolls.

Lately I realized, that even the ability to throw a red arrow at a post does not work anymore - a red arrow is simply ignored. Has it ever worked?

I don't have the same opinion. In my view, the program is great (I would give 9/10) and the value of the database is very poor (~3/10), because rules are insane (less than 0/10: they assign different identifiers for the same "object"...). In fact, when we use a correct local database (one object= one and only one identifier) with the program, it works quite perfectly.

What would be the interest to get a program probably less good than dvdprofiler (I have tried several existing ones, and none can compete with dvdprofiler) to import a database (I use this term, but it is not a database, it is a collection of errors) so bad that no linking, sorting, filtering and linking is possible ?

I fully agree. I have, at various times, tried just about ever other program out there,,,none comes close to DVDP....not even close.

As for the online database, really, no one to blame but the contributors themselves.
Even with the current rules, such as they are, if everyone followed them, linking would not be a problem....ie: enter what you see on screen but link to the "common name".
Problem arises when contributor doesn't know (or care to research) that the "Bob Smith" credited on screen is really "Billy Bob".

Even with a complete change/overhall in the program, contributors would still need to know this.
As Surfeur51 said in another thread :

Even with a program change, a huge work will have to be done : even with a unique identifier, we'll need to enter information saying that John S. Taylor is the same person than John Stewart Taylor but is different from John Stirling Taylor (And the John Taylor in "Welcome on Invelos Planet" is not the same person than the John Taylor in "Welcome on Invelos Planet 2").

And is there a carrot to get the Ken bunny out of its hole?

There is one:
No more contributions. Not only one...

I agree.
I have 60 pending approval right now. and 170 ready to contribute. 8 of them TV series. 10 alt id multi film sets.
But I'll hold off till there is some type of ruling.  So the 60 may be the last.

If you can get ALL users to not contribute, that would probably get his attention.  But I doubt you could get just the people on this conversation to agree, let alone all the users who don't visit the site or aren't taking part in this conversation.

Seems like an impossible task to me.  Which means stopping contributions are probably going to have little to no effect.  In my opinion of course.

Well I can tell you right now I sure as hell won't stop contributing just because I don't like some of the rules. As for Ken not participating in the threads... it is nothing new... he hasn't in years. I for one am used to it. Happy to see him on the forums but he is going to do what he is going to do. I am not going to change my participation just because he is not changing his.

I'm pretty sure the number of people contributing is way lower than what it used to be. Hence perhaps why Ken is not as active lately. Downward spiral kind of thing, perhaps.
