Some of you people clearly have little comprehension about time and how it is spent. It takes far more than 5 minutes just to evaluate a given poost and digest the arguments, then deide what, if anything, to do about it, thenm you have to factor in the impact of a given change relative to the screeners. You are talking about several hours for any given Rule modification.  And as i said from my own viewpoint and I would suspect ken's as well not that I am trying to speak for him, but weekly Rules changes, while the users might like it, the screeners would go NUTS and it would be unacceptable. Per haps quarterly Rules updates would be the best thing for all concerned and what I would be willing to experiment with personally. Anything else would just be way too much to cope with. I have a complete plan on how this could all work out but that is something i will not discuss here, but it would improve the system tremendously, a quantum leap forward and should make the users much happier, at least in some respects, there are some users that would not be happy but they would not be happy no matter what happened. Ken if you read this you know how to reach me.

I disagree. Whilst initially, yes changes would take a little longer than five minutes, the rules wouldn't need constant updating because as they are updated, there are less things to look at in those respects. What we do need are these "forum posts" added to the rules. Some serious questions for you Skip.

If Ken can add them in a post, why not copy and paste them to the appropriate rule section?

Why never post in the technical help forum?

Why never tell us if peoples requests ideas are good or not?

Some of these are about respect for your userbase. Simple as. Sure, time likely is very hard to come by but NO posts AT ALL for people who want help? Really? Seriously?

This place thrives on what the community has to offer. Without the community and the data/plug-ins/guidance they provide, the product is much harder to sell. There is just no respect shown for the community by Ken/Gerri (who I suspect also make up the entire moderator/screener team).

Valid comments, Sam. I can't and won't attempt to speak for ken, but I will tryt and give you my take on your questions as best I can.

If Ken can add them in a post, why not copy and paste them to the appropriate rule section?

Tjis particular one, I haven't even got a theory on. It seems a simple enoiugh proposition, save for the idea of Rule change of the Minute relative to the screeners. But a qaurterly update as I have explained I don't think would make their life too much more difficult than it already may be. I just don't see where it would be a good idea to keep modding the Rules as often as they could conceivably be done based on this particular forum itself.

Why never post in the technical help forum?

I have a sneaking suspicion that this one by and large falls to us as users. There are some occassions where Ken or someone must jump in, such as referencing an old key from Intervocative. But MOST of the Tech support is quite adequately by us users. In many cases Ken only needs to weigh in one time with help and one of us will pick it up and run with  it the next time the topic is raised.

Why never tell us if peoples requests ideas are good or not?

This I would put into the category of there is no real such thing as a good or bad idea.  How an idea might be perceived depends on many factors over which we have little control or knowledge. For example, one of my pet peeves, and there are many, is that we should better be able to define what is involved in extra features  instead of the Generic forms we have always used. What trailers are included? What are the details that can be provied for featurettes or commentaries? To me it seems a GOODD idea as yoou put it, and it seems to to be easy enoguh to implement, yet we don't have it. There could be issues  with the way the database is currently structured that would require some form of redesign ofr toher that I am not aware of..

I am always willing to offer what little help I can, which comes from(a) experience with the program and (b) intimate knowledge of the  Rules development and the thought processess that went into that development.

Skip, I'm proud of you. You just made an entire post without one dig at anyone or anything. I'm not being sarcastic either, just having a little fun.

Sam, were I Ken, and i have said this before. I would have begged off the Rules, simply so I could devote my time to program development. I would have asked someone from the rules team, perhaps me, perhaps Dan, perhaps someone else, to be the arbiter of the Rules and make interim Rules changes. I would continue working with that person and the rules team to make sure the concept that was in place remained consistent and then i would have followed through with Quarterly updates to the Rules themselves. Interim mods by the way would be of a minor nature in order to keep from throwing the screeners into a "Rule change of the week situation". Were it me I would probably keep the forums posted on what might be expected to appear in the next Rule update, simply for user planning. But...that's just me.

Based upon my life at this time i am still willing to do this for the community if ken were to ask...I think it would improve things immensely.

The way I see it, this product has a community driven database and almost all visible tech support (sans ticket) is done by the community.

While we purchased this product for a one time price, ongoing support is needed from Ken (in the form of server use/profile updates/rules) to get full use out of the product. This creates a leader position that only one person can fill - and this is something anyone quickly picks up on when they use the forums.

People are picking up on that the leader isn't in office. This creates a certain amount of frustration. Then questions come up that only Ken can answer and they remain unanswered.  This adds onto the frustration.  New users are visiting with technical issues that we, as a forum, can typically only provide canned responses and hope it fixes their issue but the one person who CAN fix their issue is silent. The community sees this.

As a community driven product, Invelos needs the community to be satisfied.  Not necessary happy, but satisfied.

When there are new releases, Ken frequently visits the forums and the entire atmosphere changes - for the better.

It crosses my mind that Ken quite possibly reads threads like this (and others containing moans and demands) and simply thinks "F*4k You!"

After, I still have yet to read a single thing in this thread that would be of any incentive for Ken to participate more.
All we do is moan about everything from forum moderation, screener ineptitude, other members, lack of updates....all the way to why don't you talk to us Ken?

Maybe if we all shut up for a while he could get a word in??

Crosses my mind too, that's why I don't typically participate in such discussions but my own personal satisfaction has plummeted of late.

I don't think he reads threads at all.

I am quite satisfied.  I payed ~$20 for this software some 10+ years ago.  Not only is it still working, which is more than I can say for a lot of things I have payed that much for, but I have gotten several new versions.  I have software that cost me 5 times as much, and if I want the new version, I have to pony up that money again...sometimes more.

If I were paying for each upgrade, or paying a monthly subscription, I would probably feel differently, but I'm not, so I don't...but that's just me.

For the record: I personally would be happy to pay for an upgrade, or even pay a monthly or a yearly subscription, if that meant we would get some of the long-running issues addressed. If Ken were to come out and say "I'd LIKE to take the time to address such issues, but I just can't afford it", if that's really the issue here, then again, I'm perfectly happy to shell out some extra cash. Heck: at this point, I might even be willing to pay Ken by the hour to make some much-needed rule adjustments - of course, for my money, I'd be giving him some pointers as to what adjustments to make, exactly...

I know a lot of you guys are going to throw rocks at me for this and that's OK, but...

I see T!Ms and others side of things, but if this is your hobby, it's not that hard to work within the parameters of the rules and then using the tools given to us, alter things the way we want them. This is supposed to be fun, not a chore and certainly not a source of hate and disgust.

I can't help but get the feeling some of you are not happy while using the program...if that's the case, it's a shame, because this is a great source of enjoyment for me.

For the record, I totally agree with T!Ms last statement, but I'm content having this product at all. Trust me, I have tried them all over the years and this is by far the best one out there.

P.S. If I had a Blu-ray player in my computer and could earn enough money entering movie data for a living, I would be the a very happy man.

Same here. If Invelos.com disappeared tomorrow without a trace, I'd still be using DVD Profiler locally for many, many years to come, and I'd still be perfectly content with it. Even without the online component, the software would still let me use it exactly the way I want it - it's great at that.

But as long as we do have an online component, though, I don't think it's too much to ask that a few long-running issues are addressed, and that rule clarifications that have been stated in the forums are incorporated into the rules so that they're readily and easily available for everyone. If such things can only happen if more funds come in, then Invelos should say so and devise a set-up to acquire said funds. As stated before, I'd be among the first to hand over my cash, simply because this is a wonderful product which I've gotten a lot of use out of, for a tiny one-time fee.

Again I agree with T!M. I would gladly pay more for more, but...

Ken, if you read the threads and I think you do, don't let the negativity make you think about throwing in the towel. If people are crying now I can't even imagine what it would be like if the online went away.

I, like T!M would continue to use the program as is and create my own profiles from scratch.

I'm going to disagree and say I DON'T WANT and would not pay for further upgrades.
I agreed to a one-time-fee and that's what I expect.

But, as I said earlier, I bought that old version with no expectations of upgrades.

So, if Ken were to introduce further fees I would just stick with what I've got. Admittedly this is largely due to the fact I am currently unemployed and couldn't afford to buy further updates (if it meant going without a film/tv show when my partner feels like treating me).

However, if I was working then I would probably pay for every other upgrade; or until some new feature was added that I absolutely could not live without.
