But Skip, that's a rare exception.  How often does that happen where cast/crew data differs for the same movie in a different DVD release?  I would venture way, way less than 1 in a hundred, perhaps 1 in a thousand.  What would you rather have? 100 wrong DVD profile that needs changing or 1 extraordinary profile that needs tweaking?

Unless Berak is lying in his goodbye post, it happens more often than you think.

Unless he is counting different voice actors for anime/cartoons, I don't think it's all that common.  About the only movie that I can think of at the moment is Jet Li's Fearless where the International cut deleted the entire segment with Michelle Yeoh that was in the Chinese/HK cut.  I don't know whether in that case, they changed the credit roll at the end to delete Ms. Yeoh from the International version of the movie.

Whatever it is xradman is irrelevant, if it happens at all, it's too many times and enters an error factor into the database, one which is multiplied with every clone, this is an error factor that is easily eliminated and completely unecessary.

What, exactly, are you basing your opinion on?  I tell you that there is a user who says it is fairly common and you dismiss it out of hand.  I don't know whether or not it is common and, if you are being honest, neither do you.  All we know is what we have seen but, just because we haven't seen it, doesn't mean it isn't happening.  I take Berak at his word as I can't think of a reason he would lie.

In regards to ping ponging, I don't recall ever seeing the same profile show up more than once with version 3.0+ with the exception of being resubmitted to correct issues.

Ummm,

Experience perhaps...  I think all of us here on this forum have experience of purchasing many DVDs.  I personally own over 2,500 DVDs from all over the world.  I just don't think different cast/crew for same movie in different DVD is all that common.  What proof does Berak have that it is common???  I gave 1 example, but how many other examples are out there among 300,000 or so DVD profiles?

Actually, I can MUCH better live with 1 out of 1000 or 2000 titles that will be wrong with the new system, than with 100 times the errors we have now.

Its a matter of mathmatics, rather live with very few errors than with many errors

NASA lost a multi-million dollar spacecraft because of that kind of lackadaisical attitude. ANY error which can be avoided, should be because errors multiply.

I don't know what proof Berak has, but why would he lie?  What is his incentive?  What does he gain?  I don't doubt that you haven't seen it very often, so believe it isn't common, but that doesn't mean it isn't.  As I said, I don't know whether or not it is, but I won't dismiss the possibility simply because it is contrary to what I have seen...but that's just me.

I will say, based on my own experience in finding an aberration in less than a week, that it is probably 1 in 100 or even lower. But let's take 1 in 100, that is over 4000 titles, that is far too big an error for my tastes, which I why am refusing all cloned data that has not ACTUALLY been verified against the ACTUAL credits of the particular version. For my own collection that would be over 40 title, or almost 80 if I include my wishlist.. That kind of error is too big. This one reason why I disagree with those who believe good enough is good enough, it doesn't take much of an error in a database this large to create a real mess very quickly, especially if we cloning data without any form of verification other than a cloned profile.

We have also had several of these anomalies documented right here in the Forums.

The key is in your first line. You claim that you've found ONE case. One. Better yet, if I remember correctly, you didn't find one at all - maybe you could clear that up by telling us the affected title? Anyway, even if there was one, you now effortlessly manage to extrapolate that to 4000 titles in a bid to scare us, but again: it's based on nothing. Name me ten affected titles (still a drop in the ocean, of course), and I'll shut up. But you can't. Instead, you'd like me to prove a negative, because you know it can't be done...

And I have no problem with that...as long as we aren't pretending that it doesn't happen and, when it does, some people...like Berak...will be upset.  Some may even leave, as he did, because of it.
