My Thoughts: Another great anthology horror starring Vincent Price!  It's the double feature with the movie I watched last night so I figured we would watch this one tonight, even though it wasn't on my original list.  Again, this is superb!  Price was such a fabulous actor and he really demonstrates his range in these three roles.  Hawthorne's stories are a bit different from Poe's, so the flavor is a bit different, but they're just as good.  Highly recommended.

My Thoughts:
This is another movie that was recently given to me. After watching the trailer I was anxious to see it. Jared Padalecki (Sam on Supernatural) is in this one... which I always get a kick out of seeing stars from TV Shows I watch in movie roles. I like the game the kids played in the beginning of the movie. All sitting around in a circle... one is  marked as a "liar" and if he is exposed... the one exposing him wins the pot... if he lasts till the end... the liar wins the pot. I enjoyed the movie. Sure it is basically just another teen horror... but I liked it. I especially liked how it ended.

My Thoughts:
This one... while I enjoyed for what it is... it is not a bad movie... but I think it should have been better. I don't know... just while watching something seemed off about it. It didn't seem like it could pull off the scares. But it was enough to keep my attention... and keep me entertained.

Plot:  With Vampyr, Danish filmmaker Carl Theodor Dreyer's brilliance at achieving mesmerizing atmosphere and austere, profoundly unsettling imagery (The Passion of Joan of Arc, Day of Wrath) was for once applied to the horror genre. Yet the result—concerning an occult student assailed by various supernatural haunts and local evildoers at an inn outside Paris—is nearly unclassifiable, a host of stunning camera and editing tricks and densely layered sounds creating a mood of dreamlike terror. With its roiling fogs, ominous scythes, and foreboding echoes, Vampyr is one of cinema's great nightmares.

My Thoughts: Wow.  What a fabulous movie, especially for its time.  When the overview says "stunning camera and editing tricks" it isn't lying!  This is almost a silent film (very sparse dialog) and the acting is very much in the style of silent films.  The plot is sparse, but the film more than makes up for that in style and atmosphere.  This is one creepy, creepy film.  Definitely "one of cinema's great nightmares" indeed.  Highly recommended - if you like silent films.

My Thoughts:
This is one of my all time favorite horror movies. As with most of the Stephen King movies... Stephen King himself has a cameo in the movie. This time as the preacher at the funeral for Mrs. Dandridge... the woman that helped the creed family in the beginning of the movie. This movie is one of the few movies that can make me cringe when watching it. actually from 2 things in the movie. First when Jud gets the back of his ankle sliced... the next when he is sliced across both cheeks when he is screaming. Both those look extremely painful to me. I couldn't even imagine. Not to mention.. this is a true horror movie for any parent. It even effected me... I had a time watching this movie when my daughter was about Gage's age... especially considering I live on a road that has a high school just down the street... you would not believe the way kids race up and down this road! There for the longest time I wouldn't even let my daughter play in the front yard at all! Anyway... This is just an awesome horror movie! So I definitely highly recommend it if by chance you never seen it before.

A fairly terrible sequel. After viewing this film, I'm actually kinda shocked they went in for a third. Apparently it made more money... I don't know. Really, the best thing in the entire movie is probably the unintentional (or intentional??) sense of homo eroticsm that plays through-out. Jockstraps, tighty whities, a high school gym teacher into leather that's basically killed bondage style by a young high school boy while they're both naked in the school group shower... even one of the main supporting characters, Rod, mentions something to the lead character, Jesse, in the film, something along the lines of "she wants you and yet here you are, wanting to sleep with me!" as Jesse goes to Rod late at night, wakes Rod up in his bed and asks his friend to watch him while he sleeps.    Good times!

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

My third favorite film from the "original" Nightmare series (up to Wes Craven's New Nightmare). Bringing Wes Craven back on for this sequel was a stroke of genuis. The scares are turned up, the originality kicks back in and old familiar characters make welcome returns. Sure, there's some cheesy stuff in it (the wizard kid??) and unfortunately most of the special effects are completely and totally dated (weird how the first one holds up, and the third one REALLY doesn't), but it's still a really good time!

A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master

In my opinion, EASILY the worst of the entire series. Patricia Arquette who played Kristen in the third film, wisely chose not to come back for this atrocity, so they recast her... with one of the worst actresses in all of the Nightmare films... the moronically named Tuesday Knight. Bad acting (horrific acting), mind numbingly stupid deaths (turning into a cockroach?? REALLY???), terrible special effects and a dressing montage tragically dated right smack dab from the decade the film was made in make for an absolutely terrible addition to the franchise.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child

The franchise rebounds, but only slightly. We're treading the same waters we've done over and over again at this point... the only difference is, Freddy is able to attack other's because of a fetus... a fetus that apparently spends, according to the movie, about 70% of it's existence in a dream like state. The acting is slightly better than part 4 (with the exception of one of the leads... I've already forgotten the character's name though...  , he's the kid that draws the comic books... that guy couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag onto a street corner), and there's one cool death scene where a character gets her face stuffed with food, but it's still not a particularly good movie.

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare

Despite the fact that film goes into extremely dated 3D effects, I actually enjoy the last "proper" installement of the Nightmare franchise. I thought Lisa Zane did a great job in her leading role, they managed to wrap the story back around to it's original roots (even if there are more than a few plot holes with it), seeing Breckin Myer looking so young was cool, and the cameos by Roseanne, Tom Arnold and Johnny Depp are great. A decent finish to the "film" side of the franchise before it was brought back as Freddy coming out of the movies to invade the actor's real lives in Wes Craven's New Nightmare.

My Thoughts:
In this part we had both "Graboids" (worm-like Creatures) and Shriekers (Heat Seeking little Creatures). This movie was just a fun sequel to the first one. And something that I can only seldomly ever says... I think this one was just as good as the first one. Was a lot of fun to watch. Unfortunately this one didn't have even nearly the amount of extras the first one had.. though it did have a couple things. If you liked the first one I am pretty certain you will like this one as well.
