| Posted: | | | | I personally think being able to see which edition it is when searching for a certain edition in the database is important enough that this info shouldn't be left off just because it isn't on the FRONT cover or in our drop-down list. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Hmm, always thought I was not inventing any Editions. But I do also. For rental versions I add this information as Edition. (Maybe, because I also think similar as Addicted2DVD has written above) Normal way was always (cover always means front, back and spine): - Is there an Edition on cover matching one from the built-in editions - If not use an Edition which is prominently shown as edition - If there's another distinguisher mentioned somewhere on the cover use this (rental) But for the third variant, I never used anything that's tracked within another place in the profile or is indicated somewhere on the cover. (No DTS, because tracked in Audio. No Widescreen/Fullscreen, also tracked within the profile. No 2-Disc Edition, when not mentioned on cover) No "The Slightly Taller Version with the Blue Sticker", because it was nowhere mentioned on the cover. | | | Last edited: by VirusPil |

Yes, that is the question at hand. Ken: While I understand what pete is saying, as soon as we start moving around and trying to find this kind information from wherever it then becomes a lot more problematic in many ways. What is, where is it, what if it's printed on the disc and so forth ad infinitum. This will lead to debates and discussion, some of them quite silly, such as one user suggesting that it might be found in fine print. I would strongly recommend that a source be picked, in this case the front cover, and be done with it...look nowhere else, it makes it the easiest to implement and define. No back cover, no fine print, not on some website or other, not on the disc, etc. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | Just when you think all is clear ... According to Ken's statement the "2 Disc Edition" shouldn't have been accepted ... well it was. My attempt to remove this incorrect entry got several "Yes", and, as was to be expected, 1 "No" from the contributor of the incorrect data ... and another "No" that I thought I'd share Quote: Rules or not. There are 2 editions, it is nice to know which one has 2 or 1 disc. So if rules don't matter, what exactly was it we were talking about? | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Ken's decision is a change from what some people are already doing...taking it from places other than the front cover. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | I agree with Pete on this one.
If there is a movie I want, I put it in my Wish List. If one edition differs from another, I want to easily be able to find out that information.
This is where the Edition field comes into play. The edition field makes this data easily accessible and lets me distinguish between different DVD versions.
I want to be able to compare the various versions in order to get the DVD I want. Editions are an important factor in my consideration.
I don't care where this information is found on the DVD cover. If fact, if this information is not predominantly displayed on the front cover I might miss it. This makes the Edition field even more important.
Limiting where this information comes to the DVD covers (front, back and spine) eliminates many of the concerns raised. | | | Last edited: by Kathy |
