I am sure that Ken (and company) are fully aware of the general opinions and comments concerning ... Correct mixed case of cast and crew ... and I am sure that Ken would love to accommodate everybody's opinions on how the program works, some of these would require a rework of the program
I'm not sure that Ken is aware of this problem. Though this "sounds as a broken record", Ken has never given any opinion on this problem, which can be solved in less than one minute adding a few words in rules. I see two possibilities : 1/ Ken has not really understood the problem and doesn't wish to spend this minute for something he considers useless. I hope this is the case, and I shall try to explain this again and again... 2/ Ken really wants to add spelling mistakes, that are not on credits, to the names of the online database, to make it unique in the world, and to be sure his online will never reflect cinema history. I can understand that, though I disagree, but it would be great if he confirmed himself this position. 0r 3. He fully understands the problem, but isn't at the top of his plate at this point. (other priorities) It sounds like to me that you are not giving credit for what Ken knows (considering he has done a really good job uop to this pint on DVD profiler) |

You mean he fully understands that he asks us to populate the database with spelling mistakes, and has not the time to change the rule "If the credit information is entirely capitalized, use standard capitalization rules instead.", to "If the credit information is entirely capitalized, use standard capitalization rules in the concerned language instead." ? Knowing that he edited rules on several occasions, for things that took more time than this little change. It would take him less time to do that than reading my "endless whining". | | | Images from movies |

Or... if "E" can equal "e" or "è" or "ê" or "é" then linking will be hopelessly broken, and it's already bad enough without the introduction of more problems. --------------- |

Also, I think that these sorts of things are best changed through the rules committee. If you can show broad forum support for a change and you can provide consensus on new rule language you stand a better chance of accomplishing your goal. But trying on your own to explain it again and again doesn't really work IMO. | | | ...James

OK -- Do you know proper capitalization of Czech, Hungarian. I would assume by your statements, that you are fluent in all proper name cases in all languages around the world. Would that be a fair assumption? If not, if you come across a Hungarian name, how do YOU capitalize it. Or how about, a person whose family has been in the US for 3 generations and over time have change the "spelling" of there name (In the US, I have seen German, French, Scottish and Irish changes). Or would you just blatently assume that they would have to be their "native" spellings from 3 generations ago. I do understand the problem, believe me. There are so many different possibilities, and there is no way that any one or even group of people could even begin to get even 1/3 of them right, without some serious investigation (and a lot of times trying to contact said individual). So with these different scenarios (and a lot more that people could come up with). what rule do you propose that would not get spelling wrong someplace? If you have one, and can take criticism and suggestions for a rule change proposal, pos tit into the rules forum, and I will be glad to debate and or put my ideas forth to come up with something. That is the only way it will ever get changed (and only if Ken accepts the change) |

Already done in this poll ... following this thread I did not agree with the way the pole was worded, thought it was a little biased and insulting. That being said, a lot of information went back and forth. I even thought that we were getting some place (if you noticed, I did participate in that thread), but it just died. The problem is, it was never finished, and no rule proposal was ever put forward. Ken cannot approve a rule change (unless he comes up with it), unless a final polished proposal is put forward. GO FINISH IT... Charlie |

The problem is, it was never finished, and no rule proposal was ever put forward. Hal wrote a proposal that is the summary of 39+14+11=64 pages of discussion, which was approved by 31 against 13 voters. Ken has all the informations he may wish in those 64 pages, and has just to modify rules if he agrees with the majority, or confirm he prefers to add spelling mistakes to his database, if he disagrees. Nothing else to add. | | | Images from movies |

This is not even the majority of the forum users, just a little forum club called the rules comitee. Nothing for or against what was the poll (since I can't read it), but don't call a majority what isn't. |

How about, Ken wants to make it easy for people to contribute data based on what they see in the credits, and having knowledge of your objections continues to wish such? --------------- |

Nothing for or against what was the poll (since I can't read it), but don't call a majority what isn't. I agree with you. I just answered to two users who asked me to discuss the problem in the rule commitee. This has already done through a poll. I know that results only represent voters, but when you have 44 voters, 31 is the majority of the 44.. | | | Images from movies |

--------------- This was the reason for his 2008 clarification. After that, there were many debates about the consequences of this clarification. The main consequence is to add spelling mistakes to the database. Ken never said anything about those consequences. So we come back to my 1/ or 2/. | | | Images from movies |

Actually, his silence doesn't automatically make it one of those two choices. It could still be what scott suggests and Ken has remained silent, as he often does, because he feels it is self explanatory. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
