Quote: The correct spelling in mixed case is "große". Nimrod seems to be saying that the correct spelling, in mixed case, is 'grosse' so color me confused. I'm also confused. At the time I went to school "große" was correct. |

What? No
In mixed case große is correct. |

| Posted: | | | | ""ß" is a relatively rare case in that there is no capital version." "I'm also confused. At the time I went to school "große" was correct.

It is correct: a capital ß exists, but I never saw it used, don't know if it can be entered in DVDP or whatever. So I practically it doesn't exist. Quote:

People will search for what they read on the cover and not for the transformed typing. It doesn't make sense." (My answer It doesn't matter what makes in our opinions sense or not. It was decided this way by Ken and that's how we have to do it for the online database. Some think this is good, because the correct writting will be entered, some maybe not. My personnel opinion is it would be better to copy directly, because of several reasons, too. e.g.: - In Switzerland and Austria, the SS wouldn't be transformed to ß, because, as far as I know, they don't use ß. - DVDP is international and everybody should be able to enter the information without knowing some special writting riules. - ... But this is just an opinion and until Ken don't decides different, his "ruling" is what counts. | | | Last edited: by VirusPil |

But he dont know the german language and he dont unterstand the problem. Thats why we should correct him (See points below for example) Even Ken makes mistakes. Quote:

"the word "Grosse" doesn't exist in german and makes no sense -> Suchergebnis: 0 Treffer in Duden - Deutsches Universalwörterbuch !" Such bullsh*t (it means the same as Große)
Of course it exists, and every german knows it, thats why its called "GroSSe Film - Klassiker"
"Ken said, "if "ß" is routinely capped as "SS" in the native language, the "ß" character may be used.""
But the SS on the Cover . Nimrod: This problem exists because the program does not recogniz every possible letter in evvery alphabet. ß being one of them, so we have to fudge it, until we get Unicode support then we will see what happens. Stop sweating the small stuff | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Never tested it, but I could imagine the capital version of it won't work. (But as I have never seen it used, this is the smaller problem. ;-)) |
