I say i process things more visually though. So i guess that's why i remember film more. I remember back in my days a kid having an anime tape. Always wondered what it was again. Don't know if any one can help. But it featured a war between two factions. One was more industrial with guns. The other used crossbows. There was also some love affair between i think a prince of one faction and the princess of another. They both committed suicide in it, by shooting themselves in the head.

No one commented on my nostalgic story of Stars Wars ( way back when),, But what memorys did you have of that summer in 1977 ... ??

<<<<<***( BTW.. a Little bit of local nostalgia here for you.. In Vancouver 1977 there were no 70 mm projectors and no 6 track dolby surround sound systems .. so we here in those days were stuck with 35 mm prints in stereo only. If we wanted to see the Big Picture we had to drive 320 Km south to Seattle to visit Star Wars ..
Now this all changed in May 1980 when 'Empire' came out- the Theatres were equiped and ready to go .. BUT in 1981 Star Wars finally came to video- Beta / laser disc and VHS Hifi surround  (for those that had the receivers,) and they were also 'letterboxed' at the panavison aspect ratio of 2.35:1 ..

... and I can remember to this day saying to all my friends if you didn't go to Seattle to see this film  but  saw it 15 times in the last 4 years .. " You haven't seen Star Wars as it was intended to be seen and Heard .."

That's surprising back then in a major Canadian city not having 70mm projectors 6 track surround. Given Canada is in the same economic region as the was and still is the worlds largest economy, the US.

Even in the USA there were limited screenings in 70 MM ....

I remember han shooting first (since I had seen the original at the cinema) and it was such an obvious change when Lucas baby changed it to the other way..

I was a film student in 1977. GI bill, with my wife working part time. We went to movie theaters five to ten times every week between classes (she worked evenings so I either took our 6-year old and 1-year-old with me when I attended evening films, or I had my mother or grandmother watch them). Star Wars opened at noon on a Wednesday at the same theater which had its grand opening to the widescreen version of Gone with the Wind in '67 or early '68 (I believe it was fall '67). We bought or tickets, they gave us a program each and a button reading May the Force Be with You. I still have my program and button (but not that wife). There were maybe two dozen viewers in the large theater. We went back Thursday afternoon (not the noon showing, but the one after that) and we got another program and button each (I gave that program away, I think I still have the second button somewhere) and there were maybe a hundred people in the theater. Five buddies decided to go to see it Friday, so I went with them early Friday evening. By then, the theater had an outside line you waited in to buy a ticket (I had never encountered this before) and we were among the last allowed to buy tickets for the next showing. We had to sit in the front row, far right. That Saturday night, my wife and I took our kids to see it at the local drive-in.

A few years later, when The Empire Strikes Back debuted, we took both kids to see it on opening day. My daughter (who was not quite 4 years old) immediately noticed the resmblance of Frank Oz's Yoda voice to a certain Sesame Street muppet, and on first hearing Yoda's voice, she yelled out "It's Grover wearing a mask!" for everyone in the theater to hear. Every time Yoda spoke throughout the film, someone in the audience would laugh.
