those scumbags decided to rob honest peoples homes, set factories and stores on fire, that were built with hard work of the working class people who own them.

What's more: some of them were even so bright to destroy the Job Centre where the unemployed have to go and collect their social benefits. Now how stupid is that?

Meanwhile, I had to laugh my pants off reading this story...

If they're really interested in making a statement, why aren't they attacking Parliament and bashing down the gates of Buckingham Palace? That would seem to be closer to the root of the problem than destroying middle class, working people's property and businesses.

Between 40,000 and 50,000 cars are stolen (then normally used for joy riding) and then burnt out in Britain each year; that’s around 123 a day.  I’ve had two burnt out right outside where I live in the past four years.  The fire brigade came each time and put them out; one had its fuel tank explode and I watched a bit of its bodywork fly over my own car.  I wonder how many more got burnt out this week?  Probably not a lot extra.  That’s just one example of the scale this week’s riots. The media just loves to make everything seem far worse than it is, as it wants to sell more of its product and more than its rivals.  It’s all about making money and selling things; which is the cause of what’s happening now.  By reporting on it in the way they do they’re causing the very problem they’re reporting on.

A few years ago (before the widespread use of CCTV) we used to get groups of mainly young people running through places like shopping centres and taking whatever they could from shops and individuals as they went.  It got called steaming.  Not a hugely different thing really and far closer to what’s been happening this week than many of the riots that have occurred in other places over the past 10 years in many other countries, which were politically motivated.

So as they say, move on, there’s nothing to see here.

I loved the British Tourism video by the way.  Sounds like a great place for an adventure stye holiday.
Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it?  Guttermouth "Lemon Water".  Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally.  So I'm an anarchist, deal with it.  Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted...

That would be the video I linked to in my first post in this thread.

The young man is a Malaysian student whose jaw was broken in an earlier attack.
More about him here
and here.

Much to his credit, he said he felt sorry for those who attacked and robbed him, and after surgery in which a metal plate was put in his jaw, he told reporters he resisted his mum's appeal to come home, saying that "Britain is great".

Going back now, yes, that is the video. But from the description I expected something else at the time and hadn't looked at it. I originally found it on a gaming website, where they reported that one of the stolen items was a PSP (handheld gaming device) and that Sony will send him a new one and another company will send him a bunch of games.

Thanks for the updates on the young man's story.

The main culprit has been arrested btw, and awaiting court.

Good to see courts sending this knobs to prison. Six months for stealing a bottle of water? Six months for stealing a packet of chewing gum? Four months for 'organising via twitter'? We are usually very leniant with sentencing, with magistrates courts usually giving prison sentences to 3.5%. This week, the magistrates have sent 60% of people to prison.

(magistrates is for 'minor' offences with maximum sentences of six months... a lot of had their cases referred to crown court for sentencing which can give longer sentences)

What a funny man.  Should have his own TV programme really.  His other videos are great too.

This is the type of sentencing I like to see:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2026755/Two-Facebook-users-urged-people-join-riots-online-jailed-FOUR-years.html

Jailed for four years each for inciting riots via facebook.

Last weekend, I watched a news report where a reporter was interviewing two rioters/looters who had their face covered via hoodies.  They had no remorse over the damage they caused and when the reporter asked if they had trouble sleeping at night, one replied with something like "Only because I'm watching my new 60' TV"

My uncle had a 60' screen back in the 1950s. Cars parked in front of it to watch movies.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.
