I personally don't agree with the rule but do agree with Skip's way of thinking for this one. It doesn't say to separate if there's one, it simply states to separate all paragraphs.

I don't have a problem with that, but that's not what the rules state. So is it now okay for us to determine where the paragraph breaks are? Because I'll support that.

But saying I went against the rules is completely incorrect.*

*Unless, of course, a decision was made in a thread 8 years ago that never got around to the rules page.

No, it's not incorrect, it's fact, Alien. You admitted it. The Rule is CLEAR, it says APLL paragraphs are separated by by space. You not only admitted it, you said  in essence that you would not Contribute correct data, you come here and brag about it, like it's cool. It's not, you were dead wrong.

All you have to do is follow the Rules. As I said this has been the convention in Profiler dating allthe back and we simply codified the convention in the Rules.

Based on the Actual wording and construction, I do not how this could possibly be construed as you are doing.  Tjhe sentence is simple and it is NOT qualified. It says "Separate all paragraphs with a blank line." ALL paragraphs, not some, not a few, ALL.That is how it has always been done dating back to the guidelines.

Skip

So now we are inventing data?

See, this is where the problem comes in. We have this whole thing of "don't invent data!! take it EXACTLY as it is from the source!!" driven into our heads... and now, with this one little specific thing, we're told "okay... invent data... there's no paragraph break there, but maybe there should be one, so put it in... even though it's not there."

I'm all for putting the paragraph breaks in. I'm in the Canadian locality. I get a french overview shoved underneath the english one, to save space, overviews don't have paragraph breaks in cases like this.

But that is not how I've always read the rules, so obviously it is qualified. If even one person is able to interpret it differently, it needs to be re-written so it's more clear (such as "separate all paragraphs with a blank line, even if there isn't one on the cover") . I've explained how I've always read that part of the rules, and my point of view on it is valid... because if I've been reading them wrong, others may read them wrong as well.

Again, I think you're reading to much into what he says. He interpreted the rules as I did. He was simply following the rules as he thought they were laid out. He didn't say he wouldn't contribute correct data, he said he thought he WAS contributing correct data. Two completely different things. You're putting words in his mouth Skip, and that's totally unfair.

I am not saying anything of the kind, Merrik. i am pointing out the wording and it does not support your claim in ANY form... zip, zero, nada. If you want to call that inventing data that is your call. but your interpretation is certainly NOT supported by the Rules. I never realized that English was so difficult to comprehend.

"Separate all paragraph"; you do understand what ALL means I presume. sorry to get so cross about it but your interpretation is simply unbelievable and i don't see how you could possibly create your interpretation essentially out of whole cloth, while ignoring ONE very important word.

Thanks again, Merrik.

Every paragraph had noticeable breaks, save the first one. The indentions were all over the place, so you those were of no help.

But since every other paragraph had a noticeable break save the first one, I entered it in as it was on the box. (TBH, it very well could have intentionally been one graph, but it certainly 'read' better as two, thus the vote.)

On an aside, thank you for having strong reading comprehension skills. They are helpful when having discussions on a message board. Obviously.

Skip, stop being rude. I comprehend English perfectly well thank-you and it's insulting that you would start throwing out phrases like that simply because I interpreted a section of the rules differently than they were meant (like that hasn't happened around these parts before...) or as you interpret them.

I understand the word all, I've focused on that word.

You honestly mean to tell me that "Copy the overview from the back of the DVD case exactly as written, including capitalization of words exactly as shown on the back of the case. Separate all paragraphs with a blank line" wouldn't be more clear if it was written: "Copy the overview from the back of the DVD case exactly as written, including capitalization of words exactly as shown on the back of the case, with one exception. Separate all paragraphs with a blank line even if there isn't one on the back cover".

Again both Merrik and Alien, I am nottelling you to invent data. I am telling you to follow the Rules and not selctively. I presume that you both understand how paragraphs work. and  that paragraph adds to separate ALL paragraphs by a space. How can that possibly be interpreted as you are attempting to do, it's crazy. And that is the lightest word I can use.

Well... been fun folks!

Gotta head out to do some New's Year partying!

Hope everyone has a good one!

Just to refresh my stance, I'm for adding in paragraph breaks when they're not there (although I've read the rules a different way), I'm against people simply copying bad data from one profile to another, I'm for people auditing titles making them correct and then sharing the information. I think that covers everything!

@Merrik
I agree with you...I think.  If there is an obvious paragraph in the overview...indicated by an indentation, a large gap at the end of the previous sentence, etc....I will add a line break, even when one isn't included on the case.  If there isn't an obvious paragraph, I will not.  If that is what you meant then, yea, I agree.

If I am reading him correctly, he isn't saying there wasn't a line break, he is saying there wasn't an obvious indication of a new paragraph.

My friend, I can't even follow you.   That is rare indeed.

I think I need something to look at. But i will say this I have never seen  any Overview exception. The closest I have seen is some MGM titles that use , at first glance, a single paragraphs, but upon closer examination have paragraph denoted, not in the usual fashion, but by some form of graphic image. Still add a space though.

What I am saying is "If you don't own any copy of a DVD you should not be making changes to the cast / crew / running time / regions / audio / subtitles or other things that should come from the DVD."

If you have a copy and you can check the data, then updating other profiles from that data is less of a problem.

The power of music explodes in this spectacular Blu-ray Disc Remix Edition of the Emmy Award-winning High School Musical! The smash-hit Disney Channel Original Movie now features theater-quality sound, the best picture available, and awesome bonus features that will rock your world. Get a prime spot on the red carpet for the star-studded Hollywood premiere, and join the High School Reunion where the cast reunites in an exclusive interview to share how the movie phenomenon has changed their lives. Plus, stand up and experience the Dance-Along, in which Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay and Ryan give step-by-step instructions to popular dance sequences "Get'cha Head In The Game" and "We're All In This Together." Watch five hot music videos, including two specially remixed versions of your favorite songs. In pristine picture, sound and quality only Blu-ray can deliver, this High School Musical Remix Edition is bigger, bolder and more rockin' than ever!

In this overview, as formatted, there is no obvious paragraph break.  As such, I would not create one by inserting a line break.
