I think, and I will have to do some tests to find out for sure, it also happens when you add a new DVD. I don't preview new additions so, sometimes, those pesky BYs get downloaded with that profile and merge with my DB. I think this is actually what happens. Yesterday, I downloaded and added the new DVD The Day The Earth Stood Still into my local. Like you, I didn't preview the DVD, just added it. I went into the profile afterwards, and both Kathy Bates and John Cleese had BY's attached to them, neither of which had them before I added that specific dvd. There's no other place the BY's could have come from. I'm not particularly a fan of that feature. At one point early on, I went through all the cast and crew in my local and removed unnecessary BY's from all that had them, and now I find out downloading a single new DVD into my local can attach an unnecessary BY? I mean, if one can't be found then so be it, but this thing has been so poorly managed that we might as well just go with it. I'm getting tired of trying to clean up a problem that just keeps coming back in spite of my best efforts. |

Thats the problem though, it won't be the odd one we can't find and verify, I believe it will be the large majority where acceptable documented proof of BY won't be available.
We need an alternative to BY I gotta tell ya, I could care less about acceptable documented proof for the BY. The bottom line is that all we use the thing for is to delineate between like names. I just don't see the need for a mountain of research when all we're trying to do is keep everyone separate. Of course we can continue to keep trying to shove this genie back into the bottle and continue to crab when it pops back out. |
