I have a very simple philosophy on this.

You put up your contribution.  If you get "no" votes and the voters are "correct", you resubmit with corrections.  If the voters are incorrect, you leave it as is (maybe add a comment to the contribution notes) and let the reviewers decide.  If it is a "gray" area and I get more than two "no" votes, I simply withdraw the contribution and move on.  The community's loss...not mine.

My sentiments exactly, nothing personal, just agree to disagree.  No harm no foul.

I am fairly certain from past comments that this is how Ken imagines how things should move along.

After a nice and friendly period here, things starting to get worse again.

Is it so hard to be more friendly ?
is it so hard to sometimes stfu and not be all egomaniac ?
Is it so hard to not always have the last word on every issue ?
Is it so hard to admit a mistake from time to time ?
is it so hard to realise that oneself is not the center of knowledge in the universe ?

Is the only option a friendly user has to put several others on ignore ?

Maybe those few who are constantly starting trouble here should think about the questions I raised.

cheers
Donnie

It really isn't about being so egotistical as to think my contributions (or Skips, or anyone elses) are the best.  What it was about for me was that I enjoyed doing them, and I spent a lot of time doing my best to make them as accurate as I could, and trying to follow the rules to the best of my ability.  But, when you do that, and then get somebody picking it apart because it doesn't meet their criteria for what they want in their database and then voting no, or raising such a stink about some aspect of the rules they don't like that makes it impossible to not have problems with a contribution, all the enjoyment just goes away.  It is a very short step from there to the nasty comments about a contribution or about who one's friends are, and arguments about the rules that go on forever.  It simply isn't worth the effort anymore.  I know I'm not the only one who feels that way, and I know that is why quite a few besides me have stopped contributing.

Also well said, and thats why I have stopped contributing also, It simply isn't worth the effort anymore

I don't always agree with you, Hal, on how Profiler is/should be implemented, but you are right on the mark with this bit of philosophy.  I wish more people would follow that instead of coming to the forums to carp about it.

and mark me down the same.., If I get no votes ,, I fix, If I get no votes again, I fix again, if I again, get no votes .. It's goodbye time and it is now localized ..

But seriously Skip , maybe you can take another temporary Hiatus, until 3.6 comes along and there is so much more to fix up..

This is supposed to be fun and a pleasant hobby for most of us.
I hope Skip starts uploading fixes again as the he is one of the most significant contributors to the database. But more importantly I hope he has fun doing so.

I hope one of my recent no votes to one of Skip's scans didn't add fuel to the fire.  I still stand by my vote (Skip's scan of the Austin Powers 1 was way too red and oversaturated in my opinion compared to another available scan) but things like that will have subjectivity and preference that will differ with different folks.

But I think most of the problem is that there are some haterz out there on the interwebz piled on with the fact that most of us here are pretty passionate (to the point being OCD) about our collections.    If only I had time to just watch all my precioussesssszz

I am still pretty new here and still learning the ropes of the app and its rules but I have had lots of fun organizing my collections (and trying to track down more than I few titles I am not sure where I have hidden.... darn those gremlins that hide things ) But overall everyone seems like good apples.  And I have piled up a good stack of stuff not in the database for when I get a free afternoon to input (which ain't happening any time soon)

So anywhoo...... whats a few No votes amongst friends

Hmmm,

I think I can call myself also one of the people who contribute alot, right now I am wading thru every title I own and submitting new scans where I think it is needed.

I also think that those kind of threads are not needed, but what really wonders me the most is, how personally some people take things here.
If someone votes "NO", I read why he did it, if I agree with him, i change my contribution, if not I will let it as it is and wait for the screeners to decide.

If it gets rejected, that is life, I will keep it local then.

Why should I or someone else be personally offended by  "NO" vote ?
That is beyond me

The only thing I would understand is when a "No" vote is a personal attack.
For example: "No, you suck, get new eyes, this scan is the worst I have seen!"
Such a "No" vote would of course leave me wondring at the sanity of the "No" voter, but would I stop contributing then ?
Hell no!, It's fun contributing and why should I let this be ruined by an abusive user.

But if a "No" vote says: "Sorry the colors seem off to me, I like the exisiting scans better" ,
I and no one else should have a problem with this, it is a matter of taste.

just my 2 cents here
cheers
Donnie

I could not have said this any better Darkly. This is exactly my philosophy 100%. No votes only make the database better. If I'm not sure, I let the screeners decide. If I can't figure out how to fix it correctly or I disagree, then I lock mine and be done with it. Attacks, make me smile because it's not my problem, but rather the attackers insecurities and that's not personal, no matter how bad it sounds.

If you feel someone has an agenda, not suited for this service, why not report them? Giving up really doesn't benefit anyone besides the users polluting the databases.

If this is about scans, then I know how frustrating this can be, when most users have different monitors and uses their eyes to judge. What looks great on one moitor can look bad on another.

This particular statement is very true. At my place of work we have calibration software to calibrate each monitor and printer in the office. But after all that, it still comes down to the eye(s) of the beholder on any given day on any given monitor under the lighting conditions that day.

Alright Skip, I read the entire thread before commenting and I just want to say this. Personal attacks are just words and definitely not the sentiment of all of us who benefit from and really enjoy having this hobby. I've been the victim of personal attacks and I'm always going to contribute. You and I have gone around a couple times, but please reconsider. Ken and the screeners are who ultimately count, not the rest of us.
