CALECON = Calecon, Caleçon, Çalecon, Çaleçon, çaleçon...

That's insane. All possible entries... none of which would link.

The flaw in this argument is that the "name" will not always be in all caps, and therefore will have to be entered with all of those variations anyway if they are in the credits of the film in mixed case in all of those variations.  So allowing proper conversion will not add to the variations!  They are most likely already there.

And we are not just talking about names, we are talking about names, roles and overviews.

Yes they do - if the current rules are properly followed. Instead, you're suggesting a rule change where such credits won't link, even if each and every user were to to follow your rule to the best of their ability. There's a huge difference there.

Please explain why they wouldn't link if the CA rule is applied.

I'm confused.

I get told I make no sense and i am supposed to remain friendly. I have users who have covered so much territory they confuse everybody, including themselves, they can't even keep straight what they have said or haven't and yet I am the one to be hammered yet again as usual.

To be fair most of this is due to a bad system being in place.  I think everyone can agree that a better system could/should be implemented.  But only Ken knows how big of an issue that may be.

I'd also like to add that maybe the reason you are being 'hammered' isn't so much of what you are saying but how you are saying it.  Many of your posts come across as being very confrontational, so even those that might agree with you are reluctance due to your attitude.

They don't start that way, Double Down. They wind up that way only because just as in this case, if I say something it's because a collection of fools are guaranteed to turn it into a 34 page thread. And BTW the sysrtem is not fundamentally flawed, the CLT is, but the foundation is not

With what we have now, the linking system that we have now, if people follow it properly, CALECON = calecon. Simple. Done. No room for mistakes.

Except for the minor detail that entering it that way is a mistake.  You've mis-spelled the word!

If people were doing it the way it was being asked of them... they would. There's no room for interpretation in É = é & E = e. It translates across all regions, across all languages. The proposal you're making unfortunately does not. Plus there's the thought that É = é & E = e doesn't leave it open for the person translating the credits to have to rely on their best knowledge of a language they don't know anything about. Your proposal does exactly this.

Tim and Merrik have it precisely right. The sysetm would work, if only people would follow the Rules. It is designed to work.

I am suggesting the CLT be adapted (easy to do) to allow for the entry of the accented name and Credited As name., unlike either the way you describe or the way you understand.

And you still haven't provided us with a full explanation of how that could work.

Not to mention the fact that a change to the CA system does absolutely nothing to resolve this problem in the role name field or the Overview field.

This is not about the Overview field. As to the Role field I have explained THAT, Hal. You have fictional, that you want to add fictional data to....NO. For cap purposes fine but anything else that you clearly believe is part of the caps NO. AS for the explanation of what I have said, I am not repeat again fo ryiou, Hal, it has been explained repeatedly, it's very easy to do. I wouldn't even describe it as a fundamental change to the CA system unlike what you want to do.

Your whole purpose is to simply create an argument, chaos and so muddy the water that everyone chases everyone's tail and that is why we have 34 pages of utter insanity. That or something else which I don't want to say.

If you want to discuss Overview start another thread.           Surfeur already tried deception and misdirection by talking about words that are not names, and even dragging a Title into it. Let me remind you, Hal, the Topic is Role Capitalization?. Stay on topic.

Are you talking about yourself?

I don't know how to garner statistics of who posts and what that percentage is. I would be interested in what those statistics are.

Secondly, in most cases people are willing to see the other persons views and discuss those reasonably. I do not consider them to be fools.

If you don't know the language of the profile you are working on well enough to get the spelling correct, perhaps you should leave it to someone else to do.

Luckily, I don't have to, since Ken wisely set a simple, universal and foolproof method to deal with all those credits, so we can all deal with all them equally fine. Wonderful, isn't it? Imagine the horror if we didn't have that - before we knew it, you'd actually be going around telling people to keep their hands off their own profiles! Oh wait: you just did that already!

If you honestly believe that is the way to run this database, then I give up...

Whys is it that something So simple, to understand and even execute is so hard for so many to understand.

Maybe because it is not easy to understand since so many to not get it. Or, it  might be that it is you who do not get it.

Tim, can you please look at the chart Yves posted. When I look at that it seems that there is a problem and that a solution should be possible.

If, as many suggest, that what is in place presently is not adequate. What do you suggest as a new, simple solution to address what is specifically addressed in that chart.

This thread has become so long and convoluted that I am becoming increasingly confused.
