Are you terminal? Why do people keep sending you movies? I understand giving movies away after a while, but I cannot imagine paying for shipping to send them to someone.

While I am always very pleased for you, Pete; and I think you have some very generous friends...does it ever cross your mind that by posting in this thread you could make some people very unhappy?

Not everyone has friends like yours, and in our current world economy, not everyone can afford to buy as much as they used to. So, while I don't think your intention is to rub people's nose in the fact that you are given lots of free things, it could be seen like that.

I got a lot of Christmas presents this year and I posted a list in the Christmas swag thread; but then felt incredibly guilty and crass when I saw other people saying they got ONE thing or a lump of coal ( ). Sometimes, it's better to keep your good fortune to yourself, in my opinion.

The same thing can be said about a number of threads here at the forum....

- 2013 Theater Visits... not everyone can afford to go to the theater and see a bunch of films
- 2013 DVD/BD LIST.... seeing all the films/shows that people are watching.... watching new releases  that some can't get and see right away. And some people don't have the time to watch stuff as others do.
- DVDs / BluRays purchased 2013.... some people can't get releases like they used to.
- What DVDs have you bought this week?.... some people can't get releases like they used to.
- What Blu-rays have you Bought this Week.... some people can't get releases like they used to.

Every one of those threads can be looked at the same way as you said about this thread... I know that I personally feel extremely lucky if I get out the the theater once a year... and then it is usually because someone is taking me as a birthday present. And most those above threads are even pinned (some have multiple years worth pinned)... Where they have to be looked at all the time.

This thread is nothing more then an announcement thread... a thread to publicly show thanks, how much I appreciate and how excited I am over their generosity. And the thread is open for anyone to post in when they are given a gift. As has been done as well.

IMHO, if someone is going to feel as you say over the thread then they know to stay out of the thread. I know if a thread would bother me I just wouldn't look at it.

Also IMHO, if many people do feel this way and want to stop me from posting in this thread then all the above threads should be seen the same way and also be put a stop to.

Personally I like reading Pete's thread for no other reason than it shows that there are still some very nice and kind people in this seriously screwed-up world. I for one am happy for Pete have the good fortune to some of them.

Don't get me wrong...as stated, I'm very happy for Pete that he gets these gifts. Personally, I'm capable of buying the things I want so there is no envy on my part.

I'm just very conscious of how this sort of thread can be conceived by some people.

There will always be people who begrudge others what they have earned/been given, and, likewise, there are others who won't begrudge Pete his gifts and generous friends - but would just as soon not have it thrown in their face.

However, Pete is completely correct, no one has to read this thread (or others like it). I read it because I, too, like to see what Pete has received.
