Spending 16 hours every day just answering inane questions; hell, he might as well be just an average member then. But seriously, how about 16 hours a year? That more realistic? Maybe just pop his head around the door occasionally and stick up for his own software instead of letting the kids fight to the death over how to capitalise a frickin' hyphen or something.
Martian might be right and the style or standards of support haven't really altered, but my problem is I started using Profiler when it was new-ish and full of ambition. Now it's just... there. I think people just stumble across it. And then they stumble across the forums to find a pedantic community that doesn't realise that DVDs are supposed to be FUN! I mean, come on, you guys expect people to check data against the bloody credits when IMDB is perfectly functional.
Oops. "Mummy, that man said a rude word!".
I can only use myself as an example. I used to be so into this, I was on the rules panel years ago, trying to help shape the guidelines. Now I never even consider contributing. Not because I expect to be voted down or anything, I just can't be arsed. Admittedly it's been a while since I checked, but there was a time when a contributor, when finding a spelling mistake on the cover of a DVD, would be expected to replicate said error. Please tell me that idea is in the bin at least?
When it was a smaller user base, the attraction of a fascist controlled database of perfection seemed like a reasonable dream, but Profiler seems to have a masochistic aim to be a niche application, lost on the web. In these smartphone days of "there's an app for that", it seems a very dated model, doesn't it? Says the loudmouth with a single contribution and a whopping 12 votes to his name in eleven years. At least samuelrichardscott makes regular contributions to the database and has earned the right to an opinion, JonM is just a waste of space. If you don't contribute then keep you trap shut and stay in the peanut gallery. | | | Last edited: by bob9000 |

| Posted: | | | | Hmmm, personally I won't invalidate anyone's opinions, even if they have never contributed as we never know the reasons why... Perhaps it has been the lack of support in certain issues that has made people shy away from contributing? |

Sam has the right to express his frustration about what he percieves as a lack of support from invelos.
Others can disagree and explain why that feel that way.
But, this thread has turned into something quite unpleasant to read and is not helpful or enlightning in any way.
Would it be possible to discuss things without being rude and resorting to insults? | | | Last edited: by Kathy |

| Posted: | | | | Everybody is entitled to there opinion. If they can express it properly in a public forum, great.
My comment of a couple of days ago, was just a criticism of how long this topic has gone on. I personally don't think anything is gong to change do to this thread.
But hey, if people want to continue to have b***h sessions, great. I can still find it humorous.

If you don't contribute then keep you trap shut and stay in the peanut gallery. Oi, numbnuts. Peanut gallery here. I made a lot more contributions before the shift to Invelos, which is about the time Skip was allowed to get his claws in and not let go (another reason I lost respect for this place). But thanks for proving my point: "Hello, I have an opinion"... "RETREAT FROM FORUM. NOT ENOUGH CONTRIBUTIONS. OPINION INVALID. SOD OFF YOU WORM." Get over yourself. Quoting TheMadMartian: Quote:
What makes you think the community doesn't realize DVDs are supposed to be fun? I have exchanged message with a lot of people on these boards and the one thing I am quite sure of is that they enjoy their DVDs. I know I do. The geekiness of contributing should be fun as well. It really isn't... Quote: IMDb, while perfectly functional on their website, charges a licensing fee to use their data for commercial purposes. Titles and overviews must be copied exactly. Good grief. That is absurd and insults the intelligence of the average user. And then they are told they can't just copy data that is already replicated dozens of times around the web, it gets worse. This is 2011. Perhaps Ken should pay the damn fee, start charging subs to the users and start streaming in existing data for contributors to tweak. That would increase popularity. I can't even understand the problem with IMDB. The license is for linking the databases, because as we're dealing with movie credits, the data is not unique to them anyway. If their mistakes and style is slavishly copied they may get the impression Profiler does use some sort of automatic link, but that's what a multiple contributor system is for. Expecting new users to switch off their brain and their Internet connection while they note down everything from source is just ridiculous. Quote: I am a little confused by this. First, because a fascist controlled anything is never a dream and, second, there is an app for that. "There is an app for that" is the kind of slogan for iPhone and Android users. The inference that the most casual user can find a fix for almost any idea they have about how to use their smartphone. As it feeds into tablets, the demand for easy, friendly and smooth apps increases. Profiler feels clunky because as soon as you find you want to contribute, you are alienated if you are that kind of user. Skip was a fascist for this database and he was tolerated for so long it damaged it. I joined the rules committee back then because I thought a bulletproof contribution system might help get that perfect independent database. But that idea is long dead and I'm continually fascinated by how little Profiler has moved on in the last few years. It needs an overhaul. | | | Jon "When Mister Safety Catch Is Not On, Mister Crossbow Is Not Your Friend."
