I can't help but feel that moving headshots into that folder would be much easier to handle - especially if you happen to be a phpDVDProfiler user.

So hopefully one day somebody will share a directory with all the headshots! I would love to integrate them into my phpDVDprofiler, wether there might be legal issues or not...

But is the naming not completely different? DVDP: Lastname_Firstname - phpDVDp: Firstname Lastname?

Fraggle:

With all due respect to you, that is easy for you to say, unless Switzerland enforces international copyright law. The penalties which are enforceable under US law are felonies and they are 5 Years and/or $250,000 per occurrence, then there is the civil issue of being sued by the copyright holder. Users such as yourself making public comments such as you did endanger every user of profiler and the Program itself. Please don't make public comments which amount to thumbing your nose at the law. If you want to break the law, keep your affair and your affair alone, do not involve others.

Your comment alone, would be enough to make me remove this thread from the Forums, were I Ken.

A simple matter of software

I had somehow missed this in the 3.5 version of DVDProfiler; shame on me.

Skip , please do not get oversensitive about this, it is in everyone's responsibility if they live 100 % by law and all rules society has ( I for sure can say I do not obey every little thing my state thinks is right).

And to share some photos that are freely available thru google search, with a few others here, will not stop the world from exisiting. This thread here exists for ages and the people enjoy to share the photos. If you do not want to do that, no problem with it. If you are afraid that the law of your country is against it, also no problem with that.

But let us do what we want here. I do not need anyone to tell me what is right and what is wrong.
I can surely judge this for myself and I can also surely judge for myself, if I want to break a rule or if I think its not worth it

This all is NO personal attack, if i sound a bit harsh, it isn't meant this way and I apologize, I just do not want this thread (which is one of the nicest in DVD Profiler), ruined by discussions what is allowed in which country and what is not.

I honestly give a **** if this is allowed or not. I enjoy it and so I will continue it
Life is boring if you always live by the rules.

cheers
Donnie

Donnie:

Don't misunderstand me, what you do privately is your affair and I will stay out of it. But talking publicly about sticking your finger in the eye of the law, especially with such hefty penalties involved endangers every other user and the program. I am not worried about me other than the PITA it would be to deal with, because everything is above board, so they can look all they wish. But that is not true of at least some users. If you keep it PRIVATE and you wind up have to deal with your local gendarmes, well that on you. We aren't talking about a speeding violation here. This to me, legally is a very big deal. I won't swear it to be factual, since I am not an attorney nor do I play one on TV , but there could well be impact since the Program being used is written by a US based and is subject to the laws of the US and I presume its users as well, regardless of where they may reside. Granted the odds are in your favor, but the odds won't help you if...

And like I said were I Ken i would have killed this thread long ago. While it is not sanctioned by Invelos, it does give the appearance of back-handed approval.

There is just to much at stake, I won't do anything to endanger any member of the Community, the Program or Invelos. In fact, I ignore this thread as much as I possibly can, because I basically don't want to know. For me the potential consequences are way too high to pay, if they aren't for you fine, i don't want to hear about it.

I am sure the Minnesota housewife who was recently fined $2.2 M for copyright violation; felt much the same as you, and she hasn't gone through the civil side yet, Whether I could pay such a fine or not is not relevant...I don't want to. You may consider that boring, I consider it expedient.

The download statistics of my site indicate a 100 - 200 downloads for each of my headshots updates, so Donnie's estimate was right on.

Personally, I will not share raw jpg images on my site since that would be a clear violation of copyrights.
With the dpb files, I feel this comes in the fair use category like the cover art. The dpb files can only be used with the program, and you don't have access to the images itself.

Don't get me wrong, I hate piracy as much as most of us here do. I purchase all my DVD's, no illiegal copies in my collectiion. I purchase all my CD's as well. Sometimes I download something, but always with the intent of buying the original if I like it.

Just my 2 cents...

Legally, cver, you wouldn't have a leg to stand on. The format makes not difference sharing is sharing. That is just an atempt, on your part, to rationalize the behavior. Just as your argument of I may download but I intend to buy   , that's like I ran out of gas. So you download, watch and decide you didn't like it and aren't going to buy it...uh huh.

Yes, I know I am a wet blanket.

Hello Julian,

The headshot images are not stored as seperate files but are included in the cast database.

But they can be.  There is no need for all of this extra work.  As pointed out in this post, that everyone seems to have ignored, you can simply place the properly named JPG image into the appropriate directory and be done with it.

It seems a lot easier, to me at least, to share the actual images instead of a db that has to be restored.

I didn't ignore this because I thought it was a bad idea - but because I have collected a lot of images which are now in the database - and I don't have any means of easily extracting the images. The thought of manually going through saving individual images.. yuk

It seems strange that Invelos came up with an alternative method of holding these images but at the same time almost made this only usable by people who didn't have any existing headshot collection so they could start from scratch.

I live in hope that invelos will produce the obvious tool to extract headshots..

Paul:

That won't happen. Two reasons, first the prive has to go up to cover the licensing costs to those who own the copyrights. Second they would have to start cutting copyright royalty checks...to HOW MANY copyright holders., probably at least on a quarterly basis if not monthly. That is another cost, and on top of that they would have to create a system to track the downloads, so that they and the copyright holders would know how big a check to write and to whom...another cost. This gets expensive ...REAL FAST.

Don't hold your breath, my friend and don't look for it.
