QFT This forum is too full of people who act like The Sayer of the Law when it comes to the rules, we too often forget that the important thing is the information on the profile. For me "visual effects artist" is just as valid a credit as "visual effects". The crew list has in the past omitted important job titles before and everyone was happy to enter them regardless, I see this as no different. |

I was obviously just trying to make a point that the rules for Make-up Effects do not include the word ARTIST either; so using its omission in the Visual Effects section seems hypocritical to me. I understand but, for me, a Make-up Artist is a Make-up Artist regardless of what their specialty is. I can't say the same about Visual Effects and Visual Effects Artists. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. And it is this very inconsistency that makes contributing all the harder. If it's okay to enter a Make-up Effects Artist despite it not being listed in the rules then the exact same thing should apply for Visual Effects Artist. The rules already added a statement about adding 'Supervising' within categories; and I see this as no different. |

The rules already added a statement about adding 'Supervising' within categories; and I see this as no different. Please don't misunderstand. I am not telling you that you can't enter them. I am telling you that I wouldn't, and why. I know what a make-up artist is and, regardless of what area he works in, he is still a make-up artist. I have no idea what a Visual Effects Artist is so I don't enter them. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. I have no idea what a Visual Effects Artist is so I don't enter them. I realise you weren't saying I couldn't add them and I didn't mean to imply that you were. My point is that by posting your initial statement you were simply adding to the confusion and hypocrisy - either it's ok to add things that aren't in the rules or it's not. There is no 'well I understand this is 'that' so it's okay; but I don't understand what you're talking about so it's not'. For data entry of any description consistency is vitally important, and I feel that the vast majority of our problems with DVDP come from a lack of consistency - and a lot of rule-breakers. Just my opinion. |
