If they can't make the 9-disc set so that it's as thin (or thinner than) the 2 DVD trilogies from November 2008 together (with their 3 thinpaks apiece), then it's a no-go for me. It's stupid, I know. And another reason: no originals from '77, '80, and '83 either (correct?). | | | My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.

Which is a total lie and his way of stamping the 1997 versions as the defacto versions for all future releases on home media. Count ourselves lucky Lucas released those limited editions for all there faults. Cause it's the only way your ever going to own them now after the 1997 versions. |

I'll agree with that which is why I'm not bothering. I've already got his re-edits and I have no need to see them better. Counting the pores on Harrison Ford's face isn't going to make watching the original trilogy any less annoying with those changes. |

George Lucas announced last Wednesday that the Saga is undergoing a 3D conversion and will be released to theaters in 2012 beginning with Episode One: The Phantom Menace. Might as well wait until the Blu-ray 3D release. The hell if I'm going to get duped into double-dipping again with the Star Wars Saga Blu-ray set and then the Blu-ray 3D set...ain't happening George. Can Lucas milk a cow or what? While I didn't see that announcement, when it was previously reported that he would be doing the 3D conversions, it was 1 film per year. So, if you want to wait for the 3D set (because he most likely won't release them individually), you're probably looking at 2017 at the earliest. After seeing the horrid conversions of Clash of the Titans and even Piranha (which was filmed 2D but with 3D in mind, and I'm pretty sure Lucas wasn't thinking about 3D when filming the originals), I can pass on anything retro-fitted. Of course if you're already 3D or planning to go 3D with your home set-up, it makes perfect sense to wait. The new formats need to slow down. If we can get a decade or 2 gap between them, Lucas will have to release the originals just to have product to push.  |

| | Posted: | | | | The studio did a piss-poor job converting "Clash of the Titans" from 2D to 3D in Post Production. I don't know who was in charge of that botched job but I'm almost certain they are enjoying unemployment right now. "Piranha 3D" wasn't too bad however. It was also a 2D to 3D conversion in Post Production but they at least seemed to take a little more care and thought in the process than did those for "Clash of the Titans". Industrial Light and Magic are in charge of the conversion for the Star Wars films and I'm sure they will take great care in the process. My home system is 3D and I'm going to just wait until the 3D versions of the Saga are released. Besides, I'm sure the 2D versions will be included in the set.
Edit: By the way, did you see "Resident Evil: Afterlife" in 3D? They did an outstanding job on that one. From my understanding they used the same Fusion Camera System that was used in the making of "Avatar 3D". | | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection | | | | Last edited: by Bad Father |

| | Posted: | | | | I was at a NASCAR race several years ago and was checking out the DLP display outside the event. They had a theater where they were showing off some DLP 3D technology and were showing clips of movies in 3D. One of the clips they showed was the chase scene through Coruscant in Episode II. I thought it looked amazing! If that's the quality of the rest of the saga in 3D, then I'm in. |

| | Posted: | | | | For me this set is an easy buy, as I (speaking only for myself) have no interest in 2D films post-processed to 3D. So, the next upgrade of these will be 4k res in 10-15 years.
I'm still holding out hope that this set of BDs will include the original releases with a proper transfer. Yes, I realize how small a chance that is, but there is hope - after all the most recent DVD release does include the originals (albeit in an awful transfer). If I were him, I'd have the transfer done and keep it a secret until late July or so. He could double sales.
