Yes. However, after my last cat passed away, I didn't get a new kitten for almost six months...and it was quite lonely during that time without a cat in the house.

@ Donnie, yes! as Corey says it gets lonely without the furry companions. You will never, however, replace the one you lost as they each have their own purrsonality!

I too still miss Shakira, Merry-Li, Zuleika, Hagley, Gimli, Muffin and all the others that have been in my life at one time or another! I have Mithrandir, Laverne and Shirley at present and they are a joy but will never replace the missed furry companions but do fill that void somewhat!

It really depends. I would say between 12- 18 years in average. But milage may vary! Some cats arrive only 8years and some over 20 years. But it is not important how old they get, important is the quality of life!

I think you might be on to something. There is a feral cat program in Buffalo that I'm involved in. I trap them and get them spayed or neutered, all their shots, flea treatment, and if needed treated for worms or ear mites. They get all of this done and it only costs $10!

So far I have done 17 cats. What amazed me is how healthy they are. Only 1 had ear mites and another (the oldest meanest one!) had a couple of teeth missing. Other than that all of them were in extremely good health. One other thing is they were all on thin side - all of them weighed between 6 and 10 pounds.

One of the feral cats, Molly, decided to live with me. I think someone must have dumped her because she is unlike any of the other feral cats I know. She used to run after my car and once I got out she would leap into my arms.

I'm ashamed to say she has gotten fat since I've had her. She went from 8 pounds to 19. I'm hoping once she gets a little more secure she will start to loose weight.

Feral cats do not like to be with people and want to be free, not Molly. It is so funny, I put her in the foyer several times to let her leave if she wanted and she would not go. Now, every time I open the door, she turns her head. She doesn't even want to look outside! She's had enough of that.

Hmm, I rescued my kitty (well, he's 3) in January...so far, I don't think he's gotten any bigger.  He started out at 12 lbs, and about 1 1/2 months later, he was still that weight.  Thought he was getting chubbier, but I bought a new brush (the Furminator and it works great!) and once I was done, he was a lot skinnier; the chubbiness was all fur.  He's pretty active and that helps keep him at a steady weight, I think.

I have the opposite problem with treats with him, though.  I can't find any that he loves!  I thought I had it with the Pounce moist ones, but after about 3/4 of a bottle, he won't eat them anymore.  I've tried crunchy and different flavors.  Mainly, he'll eat them if I put it in his food dish, but he doesn't really like anything "special."  I even tried dried anchovies!  He wouldn't even touch those! Any suggestions? He doesn't like tuna either (unless it's covered in Mayo). I want him to have at least one special treat he likes.

I guess I just have an odd cat.  No wonder he fits in well with my family!  Though, he does loves his Purina cat chow!
