There's no role in the crew table for "Dubbing Recordist".

If it were just "Recordist", you'd have an argument.

There's no role in the crew table for "Recordist" either - and rightly so. There is for "Sound Recordist", but that's something else entirely - one really shouldn't be mistaken for the other.

Ok...now I'm confused.

I will freely admit to NOT being any kind of expert on the sound section. In all honesty I have no interest in this section and only complete it for the benefit of others (and to complete a profile).

So...if I see 'Re-Recording Mixer' in the sound section of a films credits I will add this to the profile as a Sound Re-Recording Mixer. Is this correct or does the absence of the word 'Sound' mean I should leave it out?
Personally, I don't think so and would add this entry.

I therefore follow the same logic with the rest of the sound section. If someone is listed within the sound section as a 'Recordist' then I will add this under 'Sound'.

Now...if this is completely incorrect due to there being a significant difference between a Sound Recordist and a Recordist then please let me know (but preferably try not to bore me in the process  ).

Basically I check all the roles in the allowed column and if it matches one of them exactly I use it. If it does not match exactly I do not use it.

are we really going to say that a 'recordist' in the sound section isn't the same as a 'Sound Recordist'?

The simple fact of the matter is that it generally (there are, unfortunately, exceptions to every rule) isn't the same - not by a long shot. Please: ask anyone working in the sound industry. The rules make this distinction for good reason.

Not trying to be rude, so apologize if it comes off that way, but how do you know that is the reason it was left out of the chart?  Were you involved in that discussion?  I wasn't, and believe there is a more likely reason, which is why I am asking.

Here's the thing...I was involved in the rules committee that devised the rules in which Sound was defined in the rules and I have absolutely no recollection of anyone stating there was a difference between a Recordist and a Sound Recordist...and if they had I'm positive there would have been a note added to the rules.

So once again...what IS the difference because I am obviously not the only person confused here.

If there is a difference (and sorry T!M, but I'm not just going to take you stating there's a difference as an explanation) then we need to request that Ken amend the rules to add Recordist to the Incorrect Roles column in the rules.

Another reason why I would like an explanation is that when I google 'Recordist' and 'Sound Recordist' with the word film or movie the ONLY details I get coming up are for Sound Recordists...nothing comes up for a Recordist. This (probably incorrectly) leads me to believe they are, in fact, the same thing.
So a simple explanation of the differences would be appreciated.

No, you would of course add it as such, because the crew credits table actually does list "Re-recording Mixer" (without "Sound") as a valid role. It's as simple as that.

I would like to point out that you were only a short while ago advocating adding Dubbing XX to profiles despite their absence from the crew chart at that time. Obviously, it's never quite as 'simple as that'.

And on that note; we now include Dubbing Mixers and Dubbing Editors so why not Dubbing Recordist? (Meaning, why not request this role gets added to the crew chart)

Question would this be credited outside of the sound credits? The reason why I ask I've seen some UK productions using this credit for what we call in the US as the Production Sound Mixer.

No, the British expression "Dubbing" means always Post-Production Sound, so "Dubbing Recordist" is in no way equivalent to "Production Sound Mixer".

It would be helpful if the threadstarter could give some more information: a) Name of the film, b) CoO and c) Release date.
In an actual English movie I would say the Dubbing Recordist is a technician like the Recordist in actual US films, who is not to be submitted. If the film is older it could also mean an unusual British expression for Sound Re-Recording Mixer, which then should be submitted. In this case the name of the person in question would help to find out on what films he also worked and as what.

So please give us some more input...

Clearly we are reading the rules differently as I don't see anything that prevents the entry of recordist.  If you are hanging you hat on the absence of the word 'sound', then we have to remove all editor credits that don't include the word 'film'.

Thanks for the clairfication... maybe it is just Recordist that I've seen in UK productions being used for PSM?

If I did understand correct a "Dubbing recordist" is the person who does the recording of the dubbing (replacing voices), so I'm not sure if we track it.
Voices are also some kind of sound.
