You summed it up very nicely so I had to quote you.  The BD will be awesome. I'm sure it looks good in 2D. I saw it in 3D and it was stunning and as you say immersive. The 3 hours doesn't seem long. I didn't want it to end.

I saw it in 3D and didn't realize it was in IMAX. We can't wait to see it again and I will endeavor to find it in IMAX. The bigger the better. And I agree that the 3D was not a gimmick. It draws you in. The 3D movies over the last year have really perfected, in my opinion, using 3D to create the environment rather than trying to shock you with tricks. The best example I can think of from last year is Coraline.

To me, this movie takes elements of all of the big game-changer movies over the years (The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, Ben-Hur, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Titanic, Lord of the Rings....and everything Pixar), crams it into a kaleidoscope and then detonates it onto the screen. It's like nothing else I've ever seen.

It's funny, the first couple of posts in this thread were very negative, but now that people actually saw the movie the tone has changed dramatically.

I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder... 

I'm not going to see it unless someone buys it for me. I love many of Cameron's older films but I prefer my movies to be mostly real, not 30% live action and 70% CGI. It's just my personal preference.

I saw it in 2D at the local Cineworld before Christmas and thought it was spectacular. There's not an IMAX near me, but I decided it was worth the journey, so went to see it at the IMAX a couple of weeks ago.

Visually incredible at the IMAX and worth the extra few pounds admission charge, the depth of the view was staggering, with no loss of colour or definition.

Regardless of what people think about the story, the technical achievement is staggering.

It was £8.95 each for the IMAX 3D in Glasgow when I went.

try and buy your tickets on line thru the theatre's website ... then you'll be sure of a seat for that time slot..
