How about all those series that got an early retirement by the networks? Do you buy half-seasons with unresolved endings?

If I like the show, yes.

Ahh TV Series what an entertaining thread.

I am only interested in Series which are released as close to complete as possible recognizing that sometimes this could be problematic.

What many people don't realize is the issue as it relates to public domain.
Skip

That wouldn't explain why e.g. for Mork & Mindy, all seasons have been released except eh 4th (last) one. Or why the number of new releases has gone down recently (if that perception is correct). Copyright issues do explain why some productions are never released on DVD at al. The Wonder Years comes to mind.

I believe the issue for The Wonder Years is music copyrights, which is the big issue for a number of potential releases if I'm correct in my thinking.

Music rights is what held back Daria. It's finally coming next year, but with a lot of music replaced. I believe that's also the problem with Malcolm in the Middle.

All depends on the series. The old Richard Greene Adventures of Robin Hood was for years available only on selected-random-episode compilations, which I'm now getting rid of since I now have the complete series in one inexpensive package. When I'm at my local big-box membership discount store, I will find myself buying series that weren't on my want list if the season sets are available for something like $13. This can lead to the occasional season skip (I have SNL s1, s3, and s4, but am waiting for an inexpensive s2).

It is irritating when series publication just stops, as with NYPD Blue (relatively highly regarded by viewers and critics) after four season sets.

What really irritates me though is the inclusion of extra extras on complete-run sets after I've bought the season sets. This happened with The Wild Wild West, which included a couple TV movies reviving the characters. This sort of thing should be available separately for such fans as me.

I should mention that I'm very happy about issues of short-lived series like Andy Barker PI and the upcoming She-Wolf of London. My particular grail in this regard would be Murphy's Law starring George Segal and Maggie Han.

Niny Five percent of the time if I buy a TV season I complete it, even if the shows later seasons suck.  If there is only one season relased i.e Airline, Malcom In The Middle, etc., and I Ilike it,  I will buy it.  I buy TV shows all the time. Last count I own, 478 seasons, not counting anime.
