That's too bad, as a statement like this can make you seem the same way, and this is coming from someone who doesn't like American Idol.

Too right...and thanks for your posts.  Like you, I don't have to like something for it to have value.  It it appeals to some people, clearly it has value to them and I will not insult them because we don't share the same taste.

Emm i will forget i live in one of the most multi personality multi cultured country's on Earth. I only accept something as being worthy of respect if i feel it has meaning.

By all means these ppl can enjoy it just don't ask for me to respect it as there is nothing there to respect.

I don't think it's so much not respecting American Idol as it is not respecting the people who choose to enjoy American Idol.

I really don't think anyone here cares whether you like American Idol or not which brings to question why you even joined this discussion other than to criticize people for their enjoyment of something you don't like.

Surprisingly even if everything said by the guy you quote had to be taken with a grain of salt in this case he is right (a little bit over the top, but what is new). This is probably one of the best rock band of the last ten years, of course it depends if you like rock music or not.

One of the song from Send Away The Tigers released in 2007, an album that I've really appreciated.

And I'm sure there are some who feel the exact same way about the music you enjoy.

They very well may be, but that wasn't the point I was trying to make.  As he has reiterated, several times now, if he doesn't feel it is worthy, it isn't.  If he does, then it is.  That is a very arrogant statement and, as Vittra pointed out earlier, actually serves only to make him look stupid and ignorant.

Note: I said it makes him look stupid and ignorant, not that he is stupid and ignorant as I don't really know whether or not he actually is.

Stupid and ignorant? Considering im taking to an American who for all intensive purposes does not have a passport and has not even been out his own country.

I might not like something and think it's not worthy of my time but i can see why someone might like something there for it gains my respect.

Where as with something like Idol i don't see anything but morons being taken for a ride and i will contiune to vocalize that.

It don't mean to say im right or wrong but it's my stance and if you can't deal with that then fine be that way it's your life.

I have no idea what an 'intensive purpose' is, but I have been out of my own country...as have my parents and my children, though, I am not quite sure what that has to do with being an American.

These two statements seem to contradict each other.

Perhaps you should take your own advice.

What I've learned from my co-workers is that one must learn to tollerate the music enjoyed by others, and we all have different taste.

Mike likes just about anything mainstream.  I've heard Carrie Underwood, because he's played a CD of hers at some point.  He also likes Rush and Alicia Keys, and just about anything Motown.  Donnie likes Nirvana and White Zombie, and was really into grunge in the 90's, but he also likes disco.  Austin & Randy share a taste for varities of indie rock I've never heard of, though Austin is more for emo and Randy more for hardcore.  I've yet to discern the difference, for they both sound hard and tinny to my ear.  Ben likes Pink Floyd, The Beatles and just about any kind of hippie music from the 60's and early 70's.  Me, I like jazz and big band, classical and world music, The Rolling Stones and David Bowie.

Judging by sales, most of our customers like rap, which none of the employees like at all.

Somewhere in there we have to learn to compromise, since we have one CD player.  Mike says he's not cool enough for jazz, and it's apparently pure torture to everyone for me to put in The Andrews Sisters.  I have little tolerance for anything with a harsh sound (I tell people, the older I get, the better Frank Sinatra sounds).

Mainstream stuff, like American Idol, succeeds in part I think because we have to find a middle ground - not just all of us in the store, but all of us out there.  Much as I love big band from the 30's and 40's, I know I'm an oddity in my generation.  I'm not going to support a radio station any more than Randy & Austin's love for obscure indie rock.  I can't hear what they hear in that, but they don't hear what I do in Glenn Miller.

They and I have the same reaction: to cringe and go "oh god!"  Mainstream stuff is bland enough to go 'ah, I can listen to that for awhile.'  For others, they hear something in that music that we're not.  I found out yesterday one of my best friends likes Adam Lampert.

Value in music is in the ear that hears it, nothing else.  Say you dislike it all you will, it has great value to another.

(pardon me for being long-winded)
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

I had never watched American Idol. But, one night I was changing channels and happened to catch Adam Lambert singing. I made sure I watched every episode after that because I wanted to hear this amazing voice. I doubt I will watch it again, I can't imagine that anyone else can captivate me as much as this young man's talent.

I have watched it every year and i have had my favorites each season: Kelly Clarkson(1), Clay Aiken(2), John Stevens (3), Bo Bice (4), Taylor Hicks/Chris Daughtry (5), Michael Johns (6) Adam Lambert (7). I must say Adam is the most amazing performer i have ever seen on the show. Now really i am not comparing the artists from the show to legends like the Beatles, and U2( hey why not mention Garth Brooks i think he has sold a couple cd's) they are however VERY talent kids who are making the most of their one shot. How many Idol contestants have had cd's? I'll have to check that out. But Adam is going to be a star as long as he dont have too many AMA performances!
