Which four re-releases in particular?

BTW re-releases work fine, just use the discID instead of the UPC, It's not rocket science,

And not even increases the 'Contribution Votes Cast'.

And are there seriously people who care about their Contribution Votes Cast?

Naturally. It's my most beloved value.

Really? I don't have any clue what mine is and have no desire to find out. Is that even a real value somewhere? If that's why people are voting, then that statistic should be removed.

If they would ask me, I'd remove the Contribution Votes Cast. Then the Accepted Profile Contributions, the Accepted Image Contributions, the Profile Links Submitted, the Forum Posts, and the Member Since date.

Then I'd prevent Taglines, Homepages, Location, Occupation and Interests.

Then I'd extinguish Reputation, the second Tagline (shown under your alias), the avatar image, and finally the Alias.

But nobody asks me.

It is a much better choice than voting yes 'just because'.

That's my thinking. I'd better vote neutral if i can't decide if it's right or wrong, ... (than voting yes blindly on something i can't decide or i won't decide)

And i'm also not the fan of not voting.

Wanting to brag about your Accepted Profile Contributions and Accepted Image Contributions only encourages people to make good contributions.  Those are good stats.  The Profile Links Submitted is fairly neutral (unless people are submitting bad links to bump up that number).  The rest are harmless stats that don't encourage bad behavior.

Contribution Votes Cast on the other hand can encourage people to cast votes when they really shouldn't be.  You seem to be the perfect example of that based on your earlier remarks. If people are voting Yes/No when they should be voting Neutral just to inflate this stat, then it ought to be removed.

Not always, there are some users who use that number as a weapon believing their opinion is more important because their number is so much higher.  I have had a user tell me as much.

I'd ignore any comments like that just as I'd ignore any other child trying to bully me around with silly facts.

At the end of the day, I still think that stat does more good than harm.  I'd still question anyone who uses stats to make themselves feel important.  But at least more accepted contributions is a benefit to me.  I fail to see how the other stat provides any benefit beyond the neat-o factor.

I think I would consider this stat useful if it were couched in terms of accepted vs total.  If a contributor has 400 accepted but has submitted 1000, I wouldn't think as highly of his contributions than if he had 40 accepted out of 60 submitted.  Something like an "acceptance percentage" could tell us how good his typical contribution is.  How many of a person's total contributions are accepted means more to me than merely how many contributions have been accepted.

Those stats are beyond meaningless. There are a (very) few contributors with high acceptance to submission percentages who inflate numbers by making dozens of (good) submissions rather than one. I have never had a submission rejected; I have far more scans I made in the database than my numbers would show -- I submitted many scans to the old program and have been too busy to contribute more recently. All of my scans have been resubmitted by others (who receive credit for submitting them). I do not resent others getting credit for my work -- but I have an extreme dislike of some submitters' attitude that because my current numbers are small, that therefore I'm unqualified to judge their subpar scans. I have scanned photos and artwork professionally for newspapers and magazines (and other media) for more than four decades, and I think I might be entitled to being as listened to as one who has never had an image published outside the internet. All our votes are equal.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Do you people not pay attention when you are voting or know the shows/films you are voting on. There is a contribution for The Jetsons currently up, and the Contributor is fundamentally and INCORRECTLY changing the name of the Production Studio, yet the majoprity is voting Yes, which will place INCORRECT data in the database. Come on people...WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Skip

Perhaps because the contribution rules are lengthy and ambiguous....      perhaps because when someone has submitted a near-perfect or perfect profile only to have had them refused with a no vote with no comment by someone who hasn't even bothered to read the submission..... the system is not perfect and the more you post arrogant & condescending posts like this, the more people will ignore, either deliberately or other wise.

I have yet to see you ever post a constructive post.....

And, I would have thought that a system fraught with such subjective interpretation of the rules might offer/provide a better 2-way communication process, but hey, I live in hope....

Perhaps, in my own naivity,  I am guilty of the same thing myself, as I assume that most other contributors and voters possiblly are as well.  However, it does not improve the system we have one iota.

Maybe, the carrot rather than the stick may elicit a better response from both contributors and voters.... remember, it is supposed to be a community of users with a perceived common interest.... a usable and accurate database for all.....

Instead, how about a new and novel approach.... like a PM or a post with a constructive comment or explanation of the problem.... it has to be more effective than posts which are just rude, arrogant and condescending - posts like yours ... so to paraphrase you  " .WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Don't bother posting  a pompous and sanctimonious reply... it won't work....  however,  a constructive and well thought out solution to the problem at hand just may help us all

Hey, it might encourage a greater community spirit instead of just pissing people off who may have made more valuable contributions either with profiles or posts in these forums..... you never know until you try it

Too late. Skip has already driven away many contributors. Why should he stop now? Particularly when he has said so many times that he enjoys doing it.
