Yep, now that I'm able to look at the editing screen, I can see that the titles and editions are mostly entered as I'd expect based on the contribution rules.  Of my three original examples, I can now see that only "The New Guy" needs to be fixed.  The other two are just as they should be.

It does seem a little odd that the profile "general view" mashes the two items together into one "title" after there have apparently been such pains to keep them separate via the contribution rules.  Though it does make sense, in a way, if you're just browsing the collection to be informed about what version of a disc you're looking at without having to read the fine print.  There are so many reissues and special editions that I can see how it could get a little confusing if you had to dig for the details.

Thanks to all for your information and patience in assisting me with this, and helping me figure out that the problem really wasn't a problem.  It seems like everyone was actually correct: about the right way to enter titles, and that most of the titles are already entered that way.

Oh, and I was going to wait until my existing collection was completely entered before I made my collection public.  I think I'm about 2/3 done (over 800 titles so far).

Mixmaster, you can change the display of the title-edition in the options menu of profiler. Under Tools/Option click the Display tab and you will see at the right side of the window a box for Edition.
You can display one of 4 ways:
Title
Title (Edition)
Title: Edition
Title - Edition

Just above the Edition box is also a Title box where you can choose which form of the Title you want displayed.

Note that after changing, you have to "refresh" the profile list before the change is visible.

Hope that helps, and Welcome to the asylum!

Welcome to the asylum, Mal.
Nice to have a new member who is so willing to make the online database better.
Even though this time it turned out there wasn't a problem with (most of) the profiles, it's appreciated that you were happy to bring it to our attention and willing to fix them!
Good on you!
