Skips knows everyone on a first name basis.. whether we do or not...

I was going to say as well if you do a 12 digit upc 000000-000000  and get that 'wet and 18' title , just change the location other than USA  and it will be cured and fixed..

And that Terry, would still be against the Rules. If NO UPC/EAN then use the Disc ID to identify the DVD in question, as this is how we ended up with many Bootlegs in the IVS DB in the first place.

I still say that the 2 000000-000000's that are in the DB now should be purged any the owner's of these titles should be made to re-submit them by a Legitimate means ie the Disc ID.

Steve

Understood but I Should have said., "if you are making up a 'fake UPC'  and want to use the numbers 000000-000000,(to say 000000-000009 ) etc...  but it is UNFORTUNeately assigned to some 'porn title' , and this fake number to be assigned to a fictitious box set or title you are using for your 'own needs' , and ." Not to be contributed"., then as I was saying if, you update your online collection with this 'fictitious number' and you don't want Wet and 18 to displayed on your site,,  then change the locality .,, AND  don't 'contribute' it and therefore you would be of the wiser.. and this fictitious number would be unidentified...
Now of course if someone comes along and contributes the same title in question to the same locality you chose, then of course you'll be back to square one again, and will need to change the locality again.. BUT for a simple unobscure title such as W&18 .. the odds will be it won't happen .

You see I create false Parent Box set titles to 'house some of my special children.', under say John Carpenter titles, or James Bond Collection, Criterion , Alfred Hitchcock etc.. etc .,,  to house individual these 'separate type'  titles that don't come in a 'special boxset '. I'll find the individual nondvd artwork on the internet I want to use for 'front and back'  and then create a false UPC that is usually assigned to something else. If I find this title keeps coming up in a biweekly DVD refresh scan, I'll then make some modifications to my in house box set..  On line for my library you'll see a Title and upc code but no artwork, as it doesn't exist in Invelos 's eyes.., and therefore the entry is blank for the Scans..

Is this better explained ??

I create fake parent box sets all the time - but I don't allocate any UPC - I just leave it as a manual profile and DVD profiler allocates a number itself - the format being Manual DVD #nn  - and these of course can't be accidentally contributed.

I've got a DVD in my owned list with the UPC 000000-000000 -- one that I entered a long time ago before I "saw the light."  I'm not sure what to do about it, though, because I can't find it -- and I'm not anxious to go rooting around in boxes where I've got a lot of my DVD stored so I can update it with a Disc ID in place of the dummy UPC.

If we could take a profile and change it to a Manual Profile I would have done it long ago.  Since that option isn't available, I don't know any way to replace the profile without creating an empty new manual one and manually copying all the data from my Dummy-UPC profile to the new manual one.

Come to think of it, though, I'm not sure why I havend done this already (create a Manual profile and migrating the data into it) other than I'm basically lazy.

I'm not sure as I haven't used it myself, but can't mediadogg's bulk edit plugin convert all your fake UPC profiles into manual profiles in one go?
I'm sure I read somewhere he'd added something like that to it.

Northbloke correct, bulk edit can clone to a manual profile even non conform manual profile to a regular manual profile, that issue would have been taken care of. Flag all the profiles you wan to clone, select the locality, select with cast or without and your done. Bulk Edit Plugin <- Weblink

with Bulk Edit only:
  • flag the profiles to change
  • flagged profiles clone with Bulk Edit
  • select Locality
  • select cast & crew or no cast & crew
  • All that is left to do is remove the fake UPC/EAN profiles.
