have you got the latest drivers and bios for your mother board:
VIA Embedded Boards - Download Center
Have you the possibility to increase the memory on this motherboard? 512 > 1 GB and could you test this before you purchase these? It seems the EPIA motherboard is verry picky with its memory modules.
Wich mother board is it exactly? Mini-ITX

EPIA SN
EPIA EX
EPIA EK
EPIA EN
EPIA CN
EPIA LT
EPIA LN
EPIA PE
EPIA M
EPIA ML
EPIA

Another path to investigate would be the Dispaly resolution your running on. Is it VGA standard or a TV resolution.

Believe it or not, I'm not certain. I've had the MB for a few years now and I can't find the original manual. I have a couple of EPIA MBs and I use the same CD for them (plus windows updates). I think I'm going to try a fresh rebuild this weekend and this time I'll pull out the MB to get the serial numbers and make sure I'm using the specific drivers. Memory shouldn't be an issue since I'm not running much on the box, but I'll give it a shot if necessary. More to follow...

If running the program didn't work in "safe mode" we can exclude hardware problems and software interferences. So highly likely that there's something wrong with your installation.
So please redownload the installation file (If you didn't do so already).
Uninstall DVDPro from your computer.
Delete all DVDPro related folders in the "MyDocuments"-folder
Restart your machine
Run Ccleaner and perform a registry cleanup with the default settings.
Restart your machine
Reinstall DVDPro
At first startup choose "start with empty database" (or similar)

This is something like a "brute-force-attack" but still safe to perform.

If this doesn't work ...
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Did they all came with XP-Pro our do you have an XP-Home to install on this machine? I've noticed on the VIA site they don't mentioning XP-Pro just XP. Is a bit lighter in installation.

Ran the cleanup tool which actually recognized and fixed a few registry issues, but DP still crashed on startup.

They didn't come with anything. They were OEM and I built the machines and installed XP Pro. This machine will sit in a rack, so I need to RDP. I may try installing XP Home just to test, though. Can't hurt.

I think Giga was intending you to compare the contents of your folders after installation to see if there were any glaring omissions or differences.

if some files are missing or incorrect, we could upload those and replace them. (work a round if installation of these files failed for some reason)

If the dvd profiler would install under XP-HOME there is a work a round for the Remote Desktop:
HTTP link: Enabling Remote Desktop in XP Home keep it some where just in case it maybe needed.

proposal:
  • check the files of these folders:

  • click on the following internet links each will download a HTML file showing (filename, filesize, filedate, fileattribute) of each file in each DVD Profiler folder that should be there.
    c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\DVD Profiler\ (4) files

    c:\Program Files\DVD Profiler\ (8) files
    c:\Program Files\DVD Profiler\DatabaseTemplates\ (36) files
    c:\Program Files\DVD Profiler\Media\ (9) files
    c:\Program Files\DVD Profiler\Plugins\ (2) files

click here:\My documents where Mijn documenten should be your My documents
    c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Mijn documenten\DVD Profiler\ (0)
    c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Mijn documenten\DVD Profiler\Databases\ (0)
    c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Mijn documenten\DVD Profiler\Databases\Default\ (36) files
    c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Mijn documenten\DVD Profiler\Databases\Default\Images\ (0)
    c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Mijn documenten\DVD Profiler\Databases\Default\Images\Thumbnails\ (0)
    c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Mijn documenten\DVD Profiler\Databases\Default\Pending\ (0)
    c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Mijn documenten\DVD Profiler\Filters\ (0)
    c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Mijn documenten\DVD Profiler\Flags\ (0)
    c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Mijn documenten\DVD Profiler\Layouts\ (4) files
    c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Mijn documenten\DVD Profiler\Reports\ (4) files
    c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Mijn documenten\DVD Profiler\Reports\TEMP\ (0)
    c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Mijn documenten\DVD Profiler\translations\ (16) files

  • before rebuilding from zero, try the memory increase

Shouldn't be of too much use either. On the other hand, if it is, this will really give us something to think about.

Tried it. I don't even get as far as the warning before it crashes.

I suspect that your problem is one of application compatibility with the Homeseer suite of products. You may be able to obtain some assistance from that forum.

I think that all you can try is to unistalll Homeseer and reinstall DVD Profiler. If DVD Profiler runs fine, try adding back the Homeer product set one at a time until you find the offending components/s that stop DVD Profiler from working.

  • The only file missing is Databases.dod, but I assume that 's because its crashing before it can create the database.

Already rebuilt the host. Same problems. XP Home is next.
