(about 1100 shots, mostly taken from high quality press images I have access to)
Thanks.

Would you be interested in sharing your high quality images. In this thread you can find instructions on how to create a database you can share

Way ahead of you...

Many of them are A-list celeb's, who will already have a headshot.

A few are ultra-obscure actors, usually made from screengrabs, made to fully populate a particular obscure DVD title.

All the images are 400x300 pixels.

What I've done is take a screen-grab of an Explorer screen showing thumbnails of a randomly-chosen few dozen. You can judge for yourself if they're of any use!

You can see the thumbnail sample here.

If it's not too much work (like having to re-name or re-size every file) I'll upload them for you to assimilate into the database in any way you see fit, if you want them! Total file size would be about 30Mb.

This looks very good, if you still have the separate images, add them to zipfiles of about 7.5MB

I'll PM you my email address, and I'll create a headshot database with them.

Thanks, Dr. K - coming from the King of Headshots, that's a compliment indeed!

It's taken a lot of trawling through thousands of photo's, and a lot of Photoshop tweaking to make each one as good as I can get it, to come up a collection I'm very pleased with.

I've arranged to email them to cvermeylen, who will kindly prep them for you to add to the database.

I'm glad I can contribute something to a very worthwhile project.

If possible Chris, could you make this available separately when you're done with it?  I'm not real excited about having to troll through version 5 just to get a peek at these.

I received all Julian's images yesterday. I will create a database containing only his images. I checked a few images, there are some nice ones. I don't think I'll add all of them to my personal database, as there is always a personal preference. But I will provide all his images, this way everyone can decide for themselves. It will take some time, but expect to get it done by the end of the month.

Can anyone help me with a couple of queries about headshots, please?

I have several different Profiler databases (DVD, Blu-ray, HD-DVD, etc), but currently only one (DVD) has access to my headshots directory.

1) How do I find where Profiler is storing the headshots?

2) How do I point the other databases to that directory (or do I have to copy my headshots folder into a particular folder in each of my other databases?)

Hello Julian,

The headshot images are not stored as seperate files but are included in the cast database.

The easiest way to get them in your other databases is through backup/restore

Select File --> backup --> Custom backup
  * deselect all options except "Include cast/crew databases, with photos"

After the backup is completed, open al your other databases, and perform a restore of the backup you just took. If you took a correct backup, the only thing selected would be "Restore cast and crew ..."

By the way, I'm still processing all the images you sent me. I've already done 4 of the 6 zip files. There was a slight corruption in file 4 which made me lose about 14 images. On first sight, about half of what you sent me is an improvement for my personal database, so thank you again for sharing.

As soon as I have the database ready, I'll put it on my webspace and put a link here.

Hello Julian,

The headshot images are not stored as seperate files but are included in the cast database.

But they can be.  There is no need for all of this extra work.  As pointed out in this post, that everyone seems to have ignored, you can simply place the properly named JPG image into the appropriate directory and be done with it.

It seems a lot easier, to me at least, to share the actual images instead of a db that has to be restored.

I indeed missed that post. Although I'm not sure about the sharing being easier. It certainly involves a greater risk. A lot of the images will have copyrights, and sharing the images openly might cause trouble. But I don't see a great risk in sharing a dpb file. Nobody sees the content.

The risk remains the same as the purpose of sharing the dpb file is made quite clear in all these threads.  The fact that nobody sees the content does not change the fact that images are being shared.

Exactly right, Unicus. Although the risk is admittedly small, it does exist and the consequences are far greater that i am willing to deal with. This is why I build my headshot catalog and don't share it, I think (I hope) that the Fair Use Statute allows me to use images for myself, as long as I don't share them. Simply too big a risk and it does happen all the time. There was a housewife in MN afew weeks ago that the slapped with a $2.2 M fine on charges brought by the RIAA. Not a game iwant to play.

One benefit from going the individual picture route is that it should be a heckuva lot easier to deal with the rogue birthyear issues.  Just a thought.

I was thinking much the same from the post in the feature request forum. I can't help but feel that moving headshots into that folder would be much easier to handle - especially if you happen to be a phpDVDProfiler user. Also means that you can more easily share multiple versions of a headshot and let people choose the one they want (using some form of flag in the naming, such as ending it with "alt1").
