While my French is very rusty, Yves. It was one of your own countrymen who earlier this year pointed out there is indeed a Francois and it is pronounced Frankoa.

I think that "one of my own countrymen" was myself, when I said that Francois would be pronounced Frankoa, which sounds in French so ridiculously that nobody would want to be called like that. There is no Francois at all in France.

If another French user spoke of Francois, please quote...

I am sure it is not the same post I saw it on. I distinctly remember it being shorter and saying that Francois actually did exist.

Even back then when Yves asked for a link to the post, it was never produced.

Unless I can see it, it is one of many "urban legends" for me.

It's the same post I found with a google search on this forum Hal. Unless it's on the old forum that sound like a fabulation to me...

I think this might be the origin of the "urban legend". Except Eommen isn't French but Dutch and he also states that "Frankwah" does not exist.

Also that :

So, any all caps credit as "FRANCOIS" reduced to initial caps "Francois" is dead wrong, the "C" does not translate to "c" but must be to "ç".

Doesn't sound to supportive of the idea of a French François without a ç (wich isn't really a surprise to me since it doesn't exist in french).

We are so many French users on those forums...
Sure one of them suddenly jumped here to say just "Hi Guys, Yes, we have Francois in France", then he disappeared for ever...

I also want to remind that this thread is about roles, not actors' names, and I do not remember another French user saying that "Le pere de la mariee" is correct.

I am so sorry that I am trying your patience. You are trying mine, that's Ok for you but not for me. Ok, I get that...NOT.

NO Ttaro, you quoted me as saying something which I did not say. Your link took me to Rho
Sigh ... I'm honestly sorry to see that your "time off" hasn't changed the way you respond to people. I really hoped things would be different this time, but unfortunately not. I already apologized in my previous quote for missing the fact that it was not you but Rho who said that part (in fact, I made the mistake because you didn't put it in quotation marks, which made it seem like you said it until I went a bit further back in the thread and saw Rho actually said it and you tried to quote him). But hey, if you don't want to accept an apology, that's your business. There's nothing more I can say to you. You clearly don't want to be constructive in this thread, so I fail to see why you keep posting. Oh well ...

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, I think MadMartian touched upon a very interesting and important analysis:
if we see on-screen:
FRANCOIS TRUFFAUT - LE PERE DE LA MARIEE
then only the bolded letters are actually credited as on-screen, the other letters are an interpretation:
Francois Truffaut - Le pere de la mariee

I find that interesting since we go back to the source: the basic premise is to type what you see, but the small letter are all an interpretation. It's worth to take a look at it and think hard how we want to interprete that information.

I think the rules could do with a better way to deal with the interpretation of data, not just for capitalization but for many other kinds of data that can't be entered directly 'as is' into DVDP, like certain characters that are not standard on a keyboard.

It's because it isn't since it must be writen "Le père de la mariée", but some people seems to know more about the french language than people who had live all their lifes in a french environment.

Well, I guess I have to step up. I am french. François does exist. Francois does not exist. But I guess it's not always easy to find the "ç" on the keyboard...

Maybe we don't need to start a poll on this. And maybe we can let the late François Truffaut rest in peace...

How can you people waste your time arguing something like this? We have much more important things to tackle with. I just found this release in the store today, and we STILL don't have the option to choose this red colour for the blu-ray banner. I mean, really! I've waited from the morning! Ken should put all other development on hold and fix this issue. If not, I will have to go back to my pencil and memopad, and not give him my hard earned money anymore... uhmmm, oh wait.

Seriously though, for a moment I thought that HDDVD had crept from the grave...

sorry for off topic...

Oh shoot. James, you just ruined my joke

But diidn't know that in all seriousness... have to get aquainted this program better. I have used it forever but never really got to know it. Or maybe Ken did fix right after I bought this...

Anyway, didn't want to hijack the thread... because we never do that here in this forum.

LOL  Thanks, North!

You don't mind if I just take that picture there and contribute this release to the database with that, do you?

And I agree, Hal. Would prefer blue banner for the consistency's sake instead of this kind of gimmickry.
