The two situations, an unrated/not rated version of a rated film and a film that has never been rated can never happen on the same release. For whatever reason, you are not seeing this so I guess we will have to agree to disagree. It can happen and it HAS many times. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Unrated and NR being the highest rating and it has NEVER, I repeat NEVER been an issue. This is factually incorrect on several points. 1) Unrated did not exist 2) NR is the LOWEST rating, not the highest 3) This absolutely was a problem, and one I had to deal with on multiple occasions. Quote: Ken tried to fix something that wasn't broken to begin with Since the rule simply didn't cover this case, I'd call it broken. Rather than go over and over the same points (Ken fixed something that wasn't broken), how about we focus on the rule at hand? You could for instance suggest a full wording for the rule that you can get behind? | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |

| Posted: | | | | I'm shocked. Ken, are you actually daring to disagree with Skip? How could you? The biggest issue I see here is that people seem to want NR to do 2 jobs. They want it to refer to the stronger "unrated" cuts of their films, but at the same time it also has to refer to the inoffensive, TV-type stuff that was simply never rated. It looks like the best solution is if you introduce a new "Unrated" rating for the grown-up stuff, and keep NR for all the other stuff. If we concentrate our discussions (bickering) on that assumption, Ken are you happy to introduce that new rating for the US and Canada? |

(I actually don't care but this is an honest question). |

| Posted: | | | | I think if the extra "Unrated" rating is added, then the existing NR should be fine for the TV stuff. Although I agree with you, I don't know why I'm getting involved either! |

So 'Unrated' would be used for an alternate cut of an already rated film? | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

So 'Unrated' would be used for an alternate cut of an already rated film? No, not automatically - that's the problem. We're having trouble wording a rule that includes all the films that have "Unrated Version", "Extreme Version", "Too Hot for Cinema" emblazened over the cover, but exclude all the extended cuts, director's cuts. alternate versions etc. And just to throw a spanner in the works, here's another real-life example, UPC: 085391176367: I would assume most people would want to class this as a PG-13. But look what it says in the top left: "Includes alternate theatrical version with controversial ending (not rated)" How do we make sure that is excluded from being classed as Unrated? | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

| Posted: | | | | Ok, looking back at the last few pages, I may have missed something but what if we said that the new "Unrated" rating could only be used if the actual word "Unrated" appeared on the cover - would that cover most eventualities? So: Use the rating from the cover. If there is no rating on the cover, use NR. If the word "Unrated" appears on the cover, use "Unrated" even if there is also a rating. | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

How do we make sure that is excluded from being classed as Unrated? Given the two options I think I'd have to go with 'Unrated' as 'Not Rated' would imply it was never rated in the first place. This would remain consistent with 'NR' being the lowest rating. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |
