Personally, I'm putting Edge of Tomorrow in the title and locking it to keep it local.

Me too.

I keep my collection alphabetized by title and after a couple of years I'd never think to look at it under "Live. Die. Repeat."

Same here.

Add me to the mix.

I basically look at this as they took the mess they started with from the movies posters and made it worse. The "Live Die Repeat" thing is just a tagline...always was, always will be IMO. They can market it however they want to, and put whatever they want on the cover, but the title of the movie/DVD/BD is Edge of Tomorrow.

No, the rules say to "Use the title from the front cover."  They do not say to use all the text on the front cover, and they certainly don't allow for the addition of a colon in this instance.

I was of course kidding, the above is how I feel.

What still makes my jaw drop to the floor, even though this has going on for years, is how there are seriously people, more than one in fact, who think the DVD title should actually be "Live Die Repeat" (in this case for example).
99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1."

It seems that, for some people, the more strange (stupid?) are the data we introduce in the online database, the best it is (I wonder for whom...). For titles, this story began with T4xi, for overviews, we do not care if they concern what is on the disc, and each time we have obvious errors, we keep them religiously (the best being to use our stupid rules to create errors which are not in credits !!!)

and the stupidest rule of them all, makes us use a French title as original title, when it is actually an English title. But because the Studio is from France, and we have to use CoO = incorrect original title.

I agree with you. If a French movie has been released in France with an English title (such as "Swimming Pool" or "Sex is Comedy"), it would be stupid to translate in French this English title. But I have no example in mind where this has be done.

All those movies, produced by a French compagny, were released in their CoO (France) with French title. Exactly as American movies released in US with an English title...

Doesn't make them original titles though. It makes them alternate French language titles.

Sorry,
but what (in your opinion) then qualifies for Original Title?

In the case of "Le cinquième élément" we have CoO France and premiere in France (with French language title). The mere fact that the movie was produced in English language doesn't make it an english film (In the same way "C'era una volta il West" is an Italian film). Most likely it was just that Luc Besson was sick and tired of having his films re-made by american studios.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Original title is just that the original title. It isn't based on Production company, CoO, where it was released first or anything but what the original title is.

I do not care about DVDs (as covers+ discs), and have a collection of movies. I do not know what is original title for you. For me and for most of people, it is the title used in the CoO when the movie was released. Your English titles, in the examples you gave, are just alternate titles for foreign (outside CoO) countries.

Why?
The rules are quite clear
Quote:
Use the title from the front cover.

So those opting for "Edge of Tomorrow" put themselves outside the rules since this phrase is nowhere to be found there.
If you are willing to ignore that the sequence "Cruise/Blunt/Edgeoftomorrow" is written in one continuity you might remove the actor's names. But that then leaves us with "Edgeoftomorrow".

For a title-query all three title fields (DVD-, Original-, Sort-) are checked simultaneously, so even the search-results will be correct (provided that you are capable of filling in the original title correctly).

Even sorting isn't a problem if you fill in "Edge of Tomorrow" as sort title.

But (as long as the artwork is as shown in the OP) there is no way of entering "Edge of Tomorrow" as DVD-Title. It simply doesn't show up on the front cover.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?
