After uninstalling 3.8, I found one file remaining in the program file folder, deleted it, and reinstalled 3.72.  Everything seems to be working as normal.  Don't really know if that file had anything to do with it.... just trying to make sure everything was cleaned out.

Menawhile, did I understand correctly that version 3.7.2 Works under Windows 8? For me the result with 3.72 was the same: crash.

It runs on Windows 8 Consumer Preview but there are some problems so not really recommended for a main installation. I'm just using it as a portable backup.

I got version 3.8.0 running on Windows 8 Release Preview 32 bit using Windows 7 compatibility mode.
On 64 bit Windows 8 Profiler crashes.

WHAT A MESS!!!!!

The blame clearly lies with INVELOS and not Microsoft! Version 3.70.2.1444 works PERFECTLY well with Windows 8 Release Preview, "upgrading" to version 8 crashes DVD Profiler.

If you're unfortunate to have "upgraded", do a full uninstall and then re-install version 3.7.2 which works fine.

We're aware of this issue and have a solution.  We'll be making an early beta version of 3.8.1 available shortly to address.

Hi Ken

If they are aware of the issue then why is it still online without a warning? It should be pulled until a working version is available. People are automatically upgrading without being aware it does not work and risk corrupting their database.

Still no warning for Windows 8 users, I wonder how many are upgrading their 7.2 to have it trashed by 3.8!

That might be, because Win8 is not officially released yet. It is still in Beta status with no official releasedate yet, so Invelos still has a lot of time to fix this problem.
Anyone running a beta on a productive system, even though this is clearly discouraged by the provider of the software and has to be explicitly accepted at installation, should have his/her computers confiscated until finally someone decides to bring a sufficient amount of brains onto earth.

Meanwhile M$ should immediately go back to it's old policy of handing out betas only to registered / trustworthy users.

EDIT:
BTW: It is for all installations strongly recommended to read the "README" (sic!) before installing software.
The README for all DVDProfiler versions of 3.8 says:
Quote:
Note: DVD Profiler is not supported on Windows 98 or earlier operating systems,
nor is it supported on Beta operating systems.

(Bold by me)

That should be warning enough!
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Not really a valid argument when 3.7.2  works very well under Windows 8, so all Windows 8 users will rightly assume there are no issues when 3.7.2 prompts them to install the "NEW UPDATE".

Maybe Invelos should do an OS check before they do the install. Judging by the forums they definitely knew of the problem BEFORE I did my "upgrade".

I really like how you quote "MS" as "M$", very professional.

I use Windows 8 and I don't assume anything, especially since I know that it is currently unsupported by Invelos. But maybe that requires intelligence, something I haven't detected in your comments.

You need to start taking some personal responsibility.  You installed software that said it won't work on betas (reading the ReadMe file is YOUR responsibility).  You're on a beta OS.  Enough of this they should have done this and that and the other.

YOU should be aware of what you're doing on your own computer.  If you can't grasp this simple concept, then I would suggest that you avoid loading beta operating systems until you understand what you're doing and why you're doing it.  Because you clearly seem to be missing the whole point of a "beta".  This entire thread simply proves the fact.

YOU didn't do the proper research. YOU chose to install a beta OS and accept all the risks that come with doing so.  Quit whining that Invelos didn't do this to protect you and Microsoft didn't do that.  When you choose to play in beta land, those are risks you voluntarily take upon yourself.  Complaining when it all goes wrong is just making you look silly.

Get real, do you think my systems works around Invelos software? Why hide it in the readme file and give no indication in the release notes.

Still doesn't get around my previous argument, will be interesting to know what they had to change between versions 3.7.n and 3.8.1

Yes I do know the risks and part of my role is to measure those risks. I was pointing out to Invelos that they really should make their warnings clearer once these problems have been reported. Good to see they have a new beta up.

Actually the new beta has been internally tested on Windows 8 and installs correctly in our tests.  However, installation is at your own risk as we are unable to provide support on beta operating systems.
