... how would one then contribute a US profile if the same UPC existed already with a different (right or wrong) Locality?

ehm, I'm not sure I follow you. You contribute such a profile by contributing it!

The unique key for a profile is the UPC/EAN and the Locality, so 704400082696/UK and 704400082696/US would simply be two completely different sets of data.

cya, Mithi

Ah! I've been using DVD Profiler for years, and everything I had read made me think that profiles were unique only by UPC or Disc ID... I did not know it used both the UPC and Locality! Thanks for this info!

Perhaps a PM to marcelb7 to make him/her aware that the profile is a UK locality would surfice; as for as I know they are using all the search functions available on the net to find a relevant profile for the UK.

I do know that there are some 12 digit UPC's in the UK (music DVD's) and these are being left or in some cases if the profile has an extra 0 in the front it is being re-contributed without the front 0.

The cases that are found in the wrong locality are being re-submitted to the correct locality.

And as of now there are two contributions by marcel7 up for deletion that you have voted YES to.

Despite my stating in my NO vote as to where I have purchased them from.

As previously stated they keep coming up and Yes I have even PM'd him about them in the past, but I still get told that I could not have purchased at local as the EAN/UPC states that they could have only come from X, Y or Z.

Hopefully just a misunderstanding.
The problem that I have with your explanation:
I can easily buy DVDs from any location in German stores (whether they would play on my equipment is a completely different question). But a DVD with locality UK remains UK no matter where I actually bought it.
If the language of the Overview isn't any help I found it useful to take a look at the rating-logos, these usually give a good hint on the locality. Means: If there are no British rating-logos on the cover it's very unlikely that the locality of the DVD is UK.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

That is how these are being found.

Don't forget though that there is a UK exempt which does not have to have any logo displayed - BBFC details here

----
The ‘E’ symbol on video/DVD packaging indicates that the distributor believes the work to be exempt from classification.

Under the Video Recordings Act 1984, a video is an exempted work if it is designed to inform, educate or instruct; is concerned with sport, religion or music; or is a video game.

However, if such a work, including video games, depicts human sexual activity or gross violence to any significant extent it will need a BBFC classification. In addition, video games which contain ‘linear’ material (that is video footage) also have to be classified by the BBFC.

The ‘E’ symbol is not an official symbol and does not have any legal standing. Nor is it a requirement that it should appear on videos/DVDs, unlike the BBFC classification symbols.

Under the Video Recordings Act 1984, it is responsibility of the distributor to decide whether or not a work is exempt, and distributors have tended to put an ‘E’ symbol on videos/DVDs as guidance to the public.

The BBFC does not examine exempted works, nor does it decide whether or not a work is exempt.
