Stop protecting the studios! They make plenty of money despite what little kids are downloading of theirs. The studios should be accused of other crimes like special editions which aren't so special, shoddy transfers, milking the same titles over again, creating false demand by vaulting titles, horrible packaging which falls apart and doesn't use the original poster artwork, forced ads on discs, altered music from the original, not paying the artists enough who worked on their products, EPKs as bonus features, regional coding, answering the consumer e-mails with form responses, remakes and sequels rather than original ideas, digital copies, etc...

All this, along with taking away more and more freedoms every time I look at the news. I hate the state of the US right now, and what choice do we have coming up? Obama who attacks weed and freedom after swearing not to, or the psychopaths on the right who will just de-regulate everything allowing another depression while poisoning the earth and water to create 10,000 jobs with their pipeline. We happy funtimeed, vote independant!

Movie production to canada....

Not something I can complaint about, a lot of job is create here in the Province of Quebec because of this. BTW the relocation didn't happen because our workers are cheap labors, in happen because every film production made here got a tax break as long as a certain level of Canadian workers are used.

Nothing new in that, a lot of productions were made in England for the same reasons in the fifties. So this is certainly not a reason to whine...

While tax incentives are a contributing factor, the major reason is actually due to the cheap dollar.

British Columbia, Vancouver principally, is the most popular site for US production in Canada. It's estimated that close to 40 percent of all US-developed film and television productions are now made in foreign locations, and of these over 80 percent are made in Canada.

Wasn't it a major factor in canceling Stargate (Atlantis or Universe can't remember) that the dollar wasn't so cheap anymore?

You're right about Atlantis. Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi is attributed to having said that the rise of the Canadian dollar and the decline of the American dollar had made life harder for Canadian television since it had become more expensive.

I think the major factor in canceling SGU was due to a major decline in viewership due to the constant change in the broadcast schedule...2 or 3 times if I remember correctly. Another reason was it's resemblance to BSG...SG-1 and Atlantis fans were very critical of this.

Yeah. SGU started out on Friday nights, then moved to Tuesday nights then moved again...the final straw for fans, to Monday night.

Firefly was one of my favorite series from FOX, behind The X-Files. I was soooo pissed when they cancelled it after less than a full season . I just couldn't wrap my head around it.

Our dollar value is more or less on par with the US one since at least 3 years... for a while the canadian $ worth a lot more than yours Randy. Maybe it would be a good idea to stop living in the past, the US$ isn't a strong money anymore...

Why since it's the truth...
BTW it was you who started first to implied that the film productions are done here because of the weakness of the canadian dollar wich isn't true since a long time...

It isn't my fault if the truth hurt... If you see that as a "smarta$$" comment it's your problem not mine, so keep your angry eyes for yourself and don't talk about what you don't know by mentionning facts that were true years ago but not anymore...

Edit to remove unnecessary comments

That was actually my first thought, too. CAD and USD have been even for quite few years now.

Hell yeah! That has made my annual American Turkey Day/Black Friday trip even more affordable than it used to be when I started the tradition with friends over 10 years ago. Way back when the Canadian dollar was worth about 66 cents US. And I am back from Europe just in time again this year: I am thinking a fancy Android tablet this year to keep me entertained on those long Trans-Atlantic flights.
Is there an Android version of Profiler coming out any time soon?

I never mentioned because of cheap labor, I mentioned tax breaks which they got in canada and not in the US.

No you don't... What you said is that when they do a movie in the US it's because they got a tax break. That doesn't equals movie and TV shows are produce in Canada because of tax breaks (sound alike but we have to extrapolate on your post).

Well Maybe it's my english but I don't see anything stating canada is cheaper. It widely known for years that canda gives tax relief to US production companies filming in canada. So unless states or cities match the tax breaks they go north. Just recently the new Superman movie was filmed in a small town in Illinois because the got tax breaks and then they filmed in Vancouver because the got tax breaks.

Didn't happen soon enough for the Expos.
