Inflate demand by limiting supply and inflate demand by "re-releasing" after a period of unavailability.

At first I thought it seemed counter productive as they would lose the money that went into the initial pressing of the discs but then it occurred to me that they could re-use those discs in the re-release. The only real loss would be the printed cover.

Factor in Warners new found hard on for burn on demand. It could be there intention to OOP many of there back catalogue titles, then add them to there list of burn on demand titles.

While on the general release front focusing on there biggest titles, releasing them for a limited time.

Umm...they've been doing this for a while now.  Granted, it's pretty old catalog stuff so far but the precedence was set some time ago.

They obviously have some sort of minimum press number.  Once a title runs out, if they figure future sales won't meet that number, burnt disc it becomes.  They've also been OOPing single discs and creating those quad packs.

Harry Potter movies to be removed from shelves December 29th:
http://www.deadline.com/2011/10/warners-pulling-harry-potter-out-of-circulation-dec-29-with-12-1b/

Here's 1 reason why: The new Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 dvd (out today) contains a trailer for Harry Potter: The Definitive Collection: Limited Edition ... Coming to Blu-Ray 2012

The graphic shows a square-ish box that hinges open on top
My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I for one will do the same I always did: if HP7.1 and HP7.2 are available for under 10€ each I'll buy, otherwise I don't and I won't lose one second of sleep if they are "not available" by stupid marketing f-up.

A little follow-up: bought HP7.1 für 7,50€ last week and HP7.2 for 9,99€ just now (both bargains at Amazon.de) so I'm all set and Warner-Marketing can "pull of the shelves" and do "Definitive Collections" 'til they get blue ...
