The stockpile of several small and independent DVD and Blu-ray labels appears to have been burned down by the mobs of looting and rioting crooks in London. Here’s the BBC’s footage of what is said to be the Sony DADC and PIAS warehouse and distribution centre in flames.
Amongst the DVD labels who had their stock on the premises are Dogwoof Films, Pecadillo Pictures, Terracotta, and Guerilla. At the moment, there’s some confusion on Twitter as to how extensive the damage is, but it would seem that these small labels have been hit severely.
Here are some tweets from the affected:
UPDATE: And we can sadly add Arrow Films, one of Bleeding Cool’s favourite distributors to the list. They held all of their stock in this centre.
SECOND UPDATE: And Metrodome, Revolver and Kaleidoscope. They too lost stock as a result of this arson.
THIRD UPDATE: And now Network are revealed to have lost stock too. Terrible, terrible, terrible.
FOURTH UPDATE: All Warp DVD stock and BFI DVD and Blu-ray stock was also in the warehouse.
FIFTH UPDATE: We can sadly add Crabtree films, Artificial Eye and Exposure Cinema to the list of those to lose their stock.
This could be a real disaster for film lovers and even film makers, not to mention the various business people trying to survive in an increasingly difficult DVD marketplace.
Recent films of note from these labels include Johnnie To’s Sparrow and the Oscar nominated Restrepo, while Peccadillo are preparing to release a remastered DVD and Blu-ray of Peter Jackson’s Heavenly Creatures.
The same distribution centre is used by a staggering number of independent record labels who will face at least the same hardship as the DVD and Blu-ray distributors.
While businesses, livelihoods and countless discs may have fallen foul of the fire, we should at least be thankful that nobody was actually hurt in this particular incident.

Im not saying it's right im just saying it's no bloody surprise this has happen. Meanwhile Sky News does there best at filming baffled PC trendy middle class idiots, who are so enveloped in there own little worlds. They have no clue or understanding what has lead to this.
Now Sky News has moved on to pulling over any person with black skin on the street and ask them why this happen.
The rioting is bad enough, but the ignorance of ppl is even worse. |

I’m just home from a trip to north London this evening. I tried a bit of looting but I couldn’t find quite the Blu-ray player I wanted, so left empty handed; I wasn’t going to settle for any old model! (That’s a joke by the way.) However, I was at a punk gig (Subhumans if anyone is interested) and the general vibe there was that smashing up, looting and burning independently run shops and businesses in your own neighbourhood was missing the target a bit; there’re plenty of banks, multinationals' property and Government buildings you can choose from if you're doing it to make a point to the 'bad guys'.
I have to say that like most things, the media is making it all seem far worse than it is. All I saw tonight was a few police at the stations looking bored and the Tube was really empty. (It was the same when I lived in Belfast; it always looked 100 times worse on the TV than it was in reality.) It’s just a small number of streets and a few hundred people in a city of seven million. Horrible if it affects you but in relative terms that’s not many people. As soon as it rains it will all die down. There are many far worse things going on here everyday that no one seems that bothered about; around seven people every single day are killed on the roads for example, many of which are caused by people doing stupid things quite deliberately. Personally, I feel a lot of compassion with for instance local business owners who have worked hard all their life to build up an existence only to find their businesses destroyed by these thugs and sometimes having to run for their lives. @FunkyLA: Good to hear your family, friends and workmates are all fine. Although one person I know watched the house at the end of her road being torched. (very frightening for her.)
