All graphic software I already had installed before! If any other software which is using jpgs (games???) is responsible for that: How could I find out?

I was thinking about software that might index and thumnail all images on you harddisk. A lot of programs can access and keep track of your files. All kind of Media Players or Google Desktop for example. Most of these won't edit the files but I think I remember that there are some programs that might add all kind of information to a JPG in a way that is more common and globally supported for MP3 files. But if you don't use anything like this it can't be the problem so forget about it and the next paragraph, too.

If I was talking about a repair utility I didn't meant the one of the DVD profiler. There is freeware software around to scan and (hopefully) repair Images. If I understand you correctly some of your problems are caused by Images, so why not try a tool made excatly for that purpose? But I never used one so I don't know a good one. And again, if there is nothing messing around with your image files this won't help and the source of your problems must be somewhere else.

Well, as the images are no separate files on the harddisk but included into the cast-/crew-database, I can't imagine any software which corrupts this jpg's inside the dvd-profiler-data?

I can.
There are several antivirus tools out there that catalogue the content of your HDD and add/change checksums. They do so to minimize the CPU-load of the on-access-scans. Sadly for some antivirus tools this means that some files may be corrupted after this cataloguing.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

That is not nessicarily true. Please look at your DVD Profiler\CreditPhotos\ subfolder. Is it empty? If so you're correct but if it's not empty you entered at least some headshots the 'uncommon' way by assigning them to profiles not only the actors themselves.

I'm not sure because I don't use that feature but it might be possible that these Images are treated by the Profiler like the Gallery Pictures are. That would mean that the Profiler behaves completly different. AFAIK it's not possible to have different Galleries for different Collections. Collections share Galleries and maybe these custom Headshots assigned to Profiles are shared, too. So they might be in a Backup even if that Profile or the Actor is not in the current Collection. But again, that is only if these custom Heashots are treated the same like the Gallery.

I don't have any gallery. And I would have appreciated very much if the headshots are in a separate folder but they are only part of the db. With the separate folder I could copy them to my homepage without doing the same work twice.
But like said before: Now gallery or anything similar - and so it seems that the program causes the problems
