I had some cover scans declined for the same generic reason a little bit ago, just had to laugh. Third party? I guess so... there's me, the cover and the scan of the cover.

I'll happily assume in your case this was indeed an error but they may use that generic reason if they think the cover has come from a site that has put watermarks on

Hey, that actually makes sense. I'm sure it wasn't the case as I only submit covers I scan or get from hi-res sites (r1db, plenty of credits, so no watermarks), but at least it's a valid reason for that reason.

Just noticed that one of my contributions http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=116998&PageNum=LAST was declined with the reason given: An invalid source, such as a third party database, was listed in the contribution notes. Use of a third party database is not allowed per the contribution rules.

Did I do something wrong (e.g. maybe not enough sources for the birth year? is there a minimum?) or is this perhaps a mistake by the screeners?

Does anybody have any idea, and how can I ask the screeners if something like this happens?

I have the same reponse for two similar contribution but the third similar contribution was realesed

Exactly what data did you use from the internet site? It isn't clear in your notes, which could be a reason the contributions were declined.

Yeah, if you type "IMDB" anywhere in your notes, I think it will auto decline.

It does not.

It's certainly true that once I had removed the words 'IMDB' from one of my contributions that was declined it then got accepted. I had specifically stated I was replacing IMDB information and was told 'using a third party database' was not allowed.

T!M is correct, it does not auto decline when you put IMDb in the notes.  In fact, I have used IMDb as a source...as allowed by the rules when no role is given in the credits...and have had my contributions accepted without any problems.  Of course, IMDb was not the sole source, but it was one of them.

I had the same generic decline on some titles about a month or two ago when i uploaded about 10 titles to the datatbase.. all with teh same inof "New title, brief information + cover scans".. where I basically just chucked in the release date, resolution (all form the box) and the cover scans.  The werid thing wqas, out of hte 10 i put up all with the same description - some were approved some were not with the same generic statement about an invalid source..

I reuploaded the declined ones and added "From the box" to it, and they were approved the next time around.  The strange thing for me was the inconsistency of it all.  Some of the titles went through with the same description, some didn't.

I simply assumed that possibly some of the people approving the new titles were users, and perhaps one of them was new and really analy retentive about whats going to be included in the database.

So from then on, even with the minimum required to put something in the database i've been writing more detailed descriptions.. which is a pain if your scanning, editings and uploading 10 or so titles.. it all takes time and the quicker the better IMHO.
