This is unfortunate... Kathy I wish you would reconsider... these forums are much better off with you on them...

with that said... I have to agree with Ace... Invelos refuses to instate a permanent ban on a user who has been moderated literally hundreds of times... I do not spend any time in the contribution forums (or really contribute all that much anyway due to almost immediate hatred sent my way), therefore I did not know Skip was back from his last ban and yet again spewing hatred and nonsense everywhere.

How many people have left because of one person?

It shouldn't shock me that nothing was done even with his own admission he purposefully submitted bad data and fabricated notes.  He doesn't even seem to think he did anything wrong, that he was justified in fact.

I left (I did not bother to announce it for two reasons, I knew I would most likely come back and who -- not I -- needs that eye-rolling embarassment, and because I felt no one would care to ask me back) because of a few self-centered people here who made me feel bad for hating what they wrote... and I'm back, enjoying the baker's dozen game, and reaping the joy of the lolcats thread.

Kathy is one reason I like being here. I will hope she rethinks this, because when the good people leave because of the bad people all that are left are evil. We who prefer civil discussions need to step up and be civil. I try to ignore trolling, try to avoid anything less civil than "I disagree because I think a different way" rather than "I disagree because you are _____". Let those who need no moderation be the norm, rather than the exception. Let the unruly stand out and it be unneccessary to point them out.

I completely avoid the contributors' forum. Much fingerpointing and venom centers there. So I stay here, and attempt to be engaging without incurring wrath. I am a geezer and I have "get off my lawn" opinions. You are entitled to yours, unless it is to call me out for being me. And even that I will tolerate to a point.

Kathy is one of the best, if not the absolute best that we have here. She humbles me in her greatness... and I need that. I am certain she is too modest to admit to her amazing humanity. She is needed here... and elsewhere, too. She would be beloved in any forum, on any topic. Hers is a universal kindness. To incur her wrath is to behave in a subhuman manner, and we should all be better than that.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Sorry to see another person leave. You should compile a list of who left because things got too hot on these forums. Some of the other forums areas are nicer; the Contribution and Rules forums can get pretty nasty.

Skip has probably annoyed every single person on this forum over the years with his comments. I've had him and a few others blocked for years now, so I don't get angered by his posts anymore. My advice is to ignore anything he says.

Skip has been around so long, I consider him a "feature" of the program itself. There may be a Skip-free version of DVD Profiler sometime in the future, but don't hold your breath. There's no way to get rid of him, and I wouldn't recommend butting heads with him, unless you enjoy endless debates on things which probably don't matter much in the end anyway.

Ken and Gerry have allowed Skip to remain. They are probably all good friends. Plus Skip contributes A LOT to the database and I thank him for that. I cannot speak for the accuracy of his data, because I don't use much of it anyways. One smart thing Skip kept saying was "lock it and keep it local". As for him voting NO on anything you contributed, that's only one vote, and I don't think many people here on the forum will follow his lead.

just don't go to the forums.

Only checking in on the plugin forum lolcats thread, and that can be found on the internnet everywhere.

Btw. I didn't have enough greens to give them to the right people here.
Unfortunately, I can't use DVDprofiler at the moment due to lack of a Windows computer.

Invelos refuses to properly moderate these forums.  This (along with all the others who have left) is the consequence.

Indeed. Even I find myself coming here less and less - the recurring nonsense, usually from the same batch of people, is mostly so mindnumbingly stupid, that I often just can't muster up to the energy to join in anymore - let alone to plough through a dozen pages of heated bickering every time. Couple that with the fact that hardly anything, even the simplest "yes or no"-questions, ever gets resolved, and so no matter for how many pages you bicker about something, it won't get you anywhere anyway... So why should I bother? And the end result is, of course, that the somewhat "sane" users will throw in the towel (among many people that were great contributors to the program, the database and this community) and those that shout the loudest stay around.

I still feel DVD Profiler is the best tool I've ever bought, and I plan on using it, and contributing to it, for a long, long time, but the fact that (a) there is no moderation whatsoever, causing a few people, year after year, to chase many friendly and helpful users away, and (b) far too few simple questions are ever swiftly resolved, causing simple questions to fester into huge problems, creating huge animosity between users. If only such threads got a definitive resolve on page #2, then there'd be a lot less bickering. Those are my two main gripes, but unfortunately I don't see immediate change on the horizon.

Kathy,

I too will be sorry to see you got, it was a always a pleasure to read you posts in the various forums and you have helped alot of people along the way.

I'l am tho a little surprised, I thought the person in question had left quite awhile ago, perhaps I've managed to avoid coming across their posts.

Anyway a very sad loss to the Community here

A very sad loss indeed! Many thanks for all you have contributed until now!

Like many others, I come here a lot less now than I used to, and then only to some of the forums in order to avoid all the bickering. Life's too short - I can't be asked to waste my time on crap.

I will continue to vote on contributions and occasionally contribute myself, but other than that... no thanks. I'd like to thank all plug-in developers and everyone involved in contributing headshots, re-release scans, movie images, birth years and what have you, for continuing to make Profiler a great product. But all the forum bickering - I can certainly do without that. Bye!

Does he? He have told several times during the last few years that he doesn't conribute profiles anymore. He doesn't do any good what comes to contribution rules forum nor beta testing. As far as I know, even if he thinks he is second from god to what comes for coding, he has never contributed a plugin. I don't know about links or layouts, but what comes to his writing skills, I don't think that he has done any translation files eather. So, as far as I know only thing he "contributes" is bad spirit on forums. NOTHING else.

I understand Kathy's reasons for leaving and it goes far, far beyond merely an obnoxious person on the forums.

Making snide remarks on the forums or getting into endless discussions and name-calling is one thing, and can easily be avoided by blocking said person or staying out of the forums.

However, it's clear now that it goes way further than that: Skip wants to mold the online database into the perfect image he has of it and will use any means possible to get there, even going against the rules and Invelos' own wishes.
- He copy-pasted IMDB data in the past, and lied in the contribution notes where he said he got them off the DVD
- He removed correct data regarding aspect ratio, replacing it with incorrect data. On top of that he posted fabricated notes, pure lies, as to the verification method. Reason? The notes of the previous contribution were not to his satisfaction
- He stated he checked accessible audio and subtitle tracks on a Blu-ray disc when he didn't even have a Blu-ray player or Blu-ray drive

It goes on and on. He portrays himself as a defender of the rules but in fact he uses the rules to enforce his opinion on other when those rules match his own vision. When they don't, he goes to great lengths and subterfuge to force others to march to his tune. And that is the biggest problem here: the sheer hypocrisy and him trying to own the online. How Invelos keeps standing for that is beyond me.

I think I'll go on a contribution strike as well until we get some clear answers from Invelos. Does Skip own the online database or not? Is he above the rules or not?

I understand Kathy's decision. Skip has been allowed to behave as he does by Invelos for nearly an entire decade. There is literally no other forum or website that I can think of that allows user interaction that would NOT have banned a person like this.

Therefore, one cannot help but feel like Skip's behavior towards the users is approved and endorsed by Invelos.

You'll be sorely missed Kathy. I fully understand your reasons for leaving though. I stopped participating for similar reasons for over a year and a half and just returned in December of last year when Ken announced the DVD Profiler iOS App . Now that I'm back I "try" to ignore the negative here and just enjoy the few threads that I like, like Baker's Dozen and Pete's Miscellaneous Reviews thread that I enjoy reading . I'll help users where I can but other than that I keep to myself.

I'd hope you reconsider leaving but if not...I'll see you in about a year and a half   .

Take care sweet lady.

He has gone by different names; currently he's "Winston Smith". Blocking will stay in place through name changes. Go under "my profiler" - "blocked users". If you block him, you'll never ever see any of his own postings. But note: if anybody quotes one of his posts, you'll see something he said.

That will stop the nasty remarks, true. But the bigger issue is how he forces his views onto the online database by lying in his contribution notes on more than one occasion. I'd really like to know from Invelos if he owns the online database or not?

Really, now we lose Kathy to Skip?
How many does this make, and who is Skip really. He's gotta have an in, like be an alias or a signifficant other. I've been banned from porn forums for less than I've seen from him here!

Take care Kathy, hope to see you back sometime. Who's gonna say nice things about my scans now?

As others have said, it's a shame you're leaving Kathy.

Decided to edit my comments to leave the other user out of this and leave it at that I hope you reconsider but it's understandable. Hope to see you around the Net.
