Paul Yes, it's voluntary. The vast majority of stores won't sell unrated games, though and console-makers don't allow them (or AOs) |

Yes, it's voluntary. The vast majority of stores won't sell unrated games, though and console-makers don't allow them (or AOs) So this as well is not as involuntary as it seems? Only PC games can be unrated, and only if they are available for download? |

Some stores will sell them, just not major chains. Ok, thanks for the information. And as with movies, are there rated and unrated versions of the same game? Or are they mainly smaller, non-console, games? Paul |

Or are they mainly smaller, non-console, games?Paul Sometimes different platforms will get different rating (more realistic graphic generally means they'll be harder on violence), but for the most part, no. It used to be the PC games woudl sometimes get patches to restore material cut for ratings reasons, but the ESRB has banned this practice thanks to the political flap over Hot Coffee. | | | | Last edited: by Ace_of_Sevens |

| | Posted: | | | | I work in a store that sells video games (well, used video games) - and I have never seen a non-rated console game outside of old cartridge games (NES, SNES, etc). Everything that has come in for any modern console has always had a rating.
A majority of PC games that we take also have ratings. The non-rated PC games we see seem to be of the 'puzzle' variety (Bejeweled, etc) or learning type games for children. But anything that mirrors a console game has a rating.
However, since we do see games with no rating, it proves that stores do sell them new that way - even if they are only of certain types. | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.
