Thanks All - very interesting discussion - but a bit above my user leverl.

I think another point of confusion for me was the difference between a boxed set ( a set of titles boxed together ) like Shrek 1-?? or Star Wars sets,  and a set of disks that are a series such as TV seasons.  One is a set of related titles, the other is a set of "discs" that have the same title, and thus are not a boxed set.
In the TV season case you are adding discs to a single title, while a boxed set is a bunch of related titles???  I found this a little confusing at first.
I assume the disc set has a single UPC code while a box set has several???

Thanks again all for your help.

Don't worry - it was above almost everyone's head at one point or another!

A box set just means that there is more than one movie. For example Alien, Alien 2 etc.

If it is only one movie, no matter how many sets, than it can never be a box set.

TV series are just that. But, in rare case, such as when Complete TV Series are packaged together, the Box-set rules can be applied.

You can read the rules here: http://invelos.com/dvdpro/contributions/Rules.aspx.

These areas can be confusing but it gets easier the more you contribute. You can always come to the forums if you have any questions.

Hi,

I thought i'd add my question here rather than starting a new thread. I submitted a profile for the Back to the Future trilogy and am just wanting to clarify that what i am doing is going to be correct. Feedback's been great so par in PMs and just want as many opinions as possible. Especially since i'm working on a matrix collection submission.

OK, so i bought BTTF trilogy. It's a HD Keepcase with each movie on one disc and UPC: 5050582810882.
At the moment it's a profile with the discs listed. Now if i understand i can submit this as a boxset using disc ids to create child profiles. So i got the disc ids and pulled up the individual profiles through that and then updated all the info for the Australian locality.

Then i submitted 4 profiles. That is, the parent and the 3 children profiles. I understand here i made a mistake by not changing the UPC. So my question here is do i have to change the UPC of the children profiles from their disc ids to the UPC of the parent one (ie. 5050582810882)? Is that the correct way to go?

My second question has to do with BR Matrix Ultimate collection. All the movies are in thinpacks but there are also the Matrix experience discs which are DVDs. Two DVDs are in one thinpack called the matrix eperience 2 disc databank. The 3rd disc is in a separate Thinpack called the matrix experience 1-disc databank.
So should they be 2 separate child profiles or just the one?

Phew, hope that wasn't too confusing. Box sets are very complicated to me.

Parent file (the dvd set) : enter with UPC
Discs 1, 2 and 3 : by disc id

Just checking: you inserted the disc in your BD-ROM, and DVD Profiler provided you with profiles for those from Localities other than Australia? You downloaded those, made the appropriate changes (Locality of course, SRP Currency although it's 0, release date etc) and submitted them? Sounds perfectly fine to me.

No, on the contrary that would be totally impossible!

Basics: every profile in the database has a unique primary key, which is comprised of the UPC (or DiscsID) and the Locality-number. So only one profile can exist under 5050582810882.2 and the children have to be submitted by Disc-ID.

Hmm, so if the disc id exists previously (ie locality is the same as well) then that's where first in best dressed rule comes into effect?
Doesn't matter that it was released in a different packaging?
Cheers

Basically... there is many things we have no choice but to make local only profiles... because first release info is what matters for the online database. At least until Ken comes up with a better solution. This isn't only true for boxsets...  but single disc releases are effected all the time as well.

Unfortunately, yes.
