Sorry but real name has nothing to do with it. Invelos wants the name to be the most commonly credited name in the actual credits. Invelos also stated when converting from upper case to lower case to only use the accents where there is accents on the upper case letters in the credits. If not accent in the credits then we can't use them when contributing. This has been discussed at length and that is what Invelos decided on.

This is the main reason why I do not contribute anymore. Invelos has decided that when in credits you have GERARD, you must enter Gerard, creating voluntarily a spelling mistake that is not in credits. So 95% of accented names have, in Invelos database, misspelled variants that do not link.

I refuse to contribute wrong data, that will propagate to other users' databases, so I stop contribution, and do not use anymore online profiles, full of errors.

This is an error made by credit maker. We also find errors on covers : wrong aspect ratio, wrong running time. But we are autorized to correct errors made by cover makers (except spelling mistakes in overviews that we must keep as if it was gold), but not to correct errors made by credit makers. The result is a online database with strictly no value.

I can't know if Gérard is "right" and Gerard is "wrong", I must put in [credited as] what I see in the film credits, if you want use Gérard, Pippo Dedardieau or 4537423 to link the two credits you are free to use it as common name for both the names in your local, invelos ask us to use the common name and gave us the credit lookup tool to find this common name. Sometime this tool fails, often due to the bad attitude of many contibutors that put online invented data (or copy from others database), so someone use this thread trying to make a better online database.

Where?

It's not in the rules.

Rules state, "Exception: If the credit information is entirely capitalized, use standard capitalization rules instead."

It doesn't say use American or British standard capitalization.

French standard capitalization for GERARD DEPARDIEU would be Gérard Depardieu.

You're absolutely correct, but some folks jerk off by putting wrong data into the Invelos name database. Peoples obsession with rules/the utterly stupid 'common name' stipulation overrules logic and correct data. Don't fret. I'm also one of the happy non-contributors who grab names for cast/crew with DJDoenas excellent tools for my personal Invelos database

Where?

It's right here, where Ken ruled: "If the character used in the all-caps name is "É", convert it to "é" as needed to create mixed case.  If the character used in all-caps is "E", convert it to "e" as needed to create mixed case." It really is that simple.

Exactly it is a clarification to what the rule that is up means. Ken does not put all clarifications into the rules themselves. But that don't mean the clarifications can be ignored.
