I own three releases of Terminator 2, ranging in original release from 2000 to 2009.

All three simply show T2 on the front cover in the same font style/design. Well, one shows "T2: Judgment Day"

But all 3 of those releases show "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" on the back cover credit block.

I, too, own three releases of this film...

Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Region 1

Released: 10/21/1997

Anamorphic 2.35:1

T2: Judgment Day: Skynet Edition

All Regions

Released: 5/19/2009

Widescreen 2.40:1

T2: The Ultimate Edition DVD

Region 1

Released: 8/29/2000

Anamorphic 2.35:1

As you can see, the first uses the full title, while the other two use 'T2'.  I don't know why they decided to do it that way, but they did, and that is how they need to be entered.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Terminator 2
Judgment Day

That's on two lines, with a thick line separating the two. The credit block says "Terminator 2: Judgment Day"

As far as I'm concerned, this is just one more reason for why the title rule should be changed from:

"Use the title from the front cover."

to:

"Use the title from the credit block. If there is no credit block, use the title from the spine. If there is no title on the spine, use the title on the front cover. If there is no title on the front cover, use the title from the opening credits."

The reasoning being, the credit block usually has the most legible/pronounceable version of the title. Followed by the spine, and lastly the front cover which relatively often use a logo or other graphical representation of the title that's more marketing gimmick than legible/pronounceable.

Hmm. Just to play devil's advocate and make a point, I'm tempted to submit a new title update for this movie.

Old Title: T2
New Title: T2 TM

The reason being, if you look at the front cover there's a small TM printed towards the bottom of the 2. Since apparently we're supposed to enter anything that can be reproduced by a keyboard, I see no reason not to enter TM. Sure, the font is a lot smaller than the T2 portion, but the only thing about font size in the rules are concerning possessives, which this is clearly not.

There's an original title field for this...

But this rule does apply:

Quote:
For titles which include periods, dashes, or other symbols, check the credit block on the back of the case if included. If not, check the film credits or opening sequence. Use these to determine whether to exclude or convert the symbol to a standard character such as ".", "-", or "*"

Well, two comments on that:

1. TM is not a symbol. I can type it on my keyboard.
2. But, for argument's sake, let's say it's a symbol. I then need to check the credit block, which says: "Terminator 2: Judgment Day"

Now what?

1.
TM stands for both letters, ™ stands for trademark and that's certainly a symbol: Unicode 2122. If this symbol can't be entered in Profiler then it's not contributable.

2.
The front cover: "T2: Terminator 2: Judgment Day™"
Credit block: "Terminator 2: Judgment Day'
In this case the rules only tell us to use the credit block for the symbol ->
Invelos: "T2: Terminator 2: Judgment Day"

That rule about symbols tells us to use the credit block or credits to see if we include them...

Use these to determine whether to exclude or convert the symbol to a standard character such as ".", "-", or "*"

Not to take the title from those areas... so for the profile we would still use the front cover... so the title would still be T2 for those releases using only it on the front cover.

Fair enough. I certainly could debate whether the TM on the cover is a ™, especially since it's not at the top of the 2, but rather at the bottom. But for the purpose of our argument I'll accept that it's a symbol and not two smaller sized letters.

That'd be all well and good, except the front cover doesn't say "T2: Terminator 2: Judgment Day™" it says "T2 ™", and then wen I look at the credit block to see if I should include the ™, it says "Terminator 2: Judgment Day".

So no ™ but also no T2.

Now what?

Ah, but then I could argue that T2 is itself a symbol. Especially consider the use of the ™, as I don't tend to see that on regular titles, it would seem it's only necessary because T2 is a logo and not a written title.

And the credit block doesn't include either of these symbols.

In that reasoning even some on screen titles couldn't be entered... And I would like you to explain how T2 is a standard symbol (symbol isn't the same as a logo).

Right. There is a difference between symbols and logos. And I for one only see a letter and a number. Nothing that isn't easily added with a standard keyboard.

we should be solely using only the 'On screen'  titles and not a company's  artist's & commercialized artwork to sell the product., Credit blocks and On screen titles Only Please ..

That don't work for me... I have titles where the title on the case is a totally different title then the on screen credits (many low budget horror and such). I much rather have the title show what is on the front cover then what is in the credits. Even with the drawbacks.

That is my opinion anyway.
