Quote: Did you do the read-out before contributiong or was it some time ago and you submitted later? There was about a year between this submission and the last one. ... Yes, but what was the time between the disc id read-out and your contribution? Perhaps you got from some kind of update, restore, ... the old disc id into your local profile and you submitted as change to the (from you contributed) newer disc id. Which disc id shows up when you do now "Set Disc Id"? |

I hope I'm not hijacking the thread but on a related note, when you submit an alternate disc ID, does that automatically remove (overwrite) the previous one? Wouldn't that pose a problem for people who have the previous ID and want to add the disc using disc ID? I'm just wondering ... You can lock that section of the profile. I think Profiler locks it by default. You can always unlock it, but the default choice is "Locked". | | | My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT. FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that. Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it! |

... this time I am showing the original id the new one? How could just the time of about a year past and the same equipment show the opposite results? Very weird!
I seem to remember one of the beta versions that had submissions enabled was generating bad disc IDs and a number of incorrect IDs got added to the database. Could that be it?

| Posted: | | | | Thanks, seems I missed that post. Would be nice if we could see with which version the contribution was made. On pending contributions we can se it, why not in the history of a profile?! |

Found it. Looks like it was only affect HD media types though: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=317131&PageNum=1&messageID=766137#M766137 Quote:
Since the new disc IDs will be different, this install will clear the disc IDs from the first disc in each HD profile. If you have submitted contributions from earlier betas which include disc IDs, please withdraw them and resubmit after correcting the disc ID.

| Posted: | | | | hmmmm... maybe not then. Or they only thought it effected HD media. I mean how many peopletrack the disc IDs they add like I do (as I showed in the first post)... could be it wasn't realized. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Well... I just learned something new. I just had an alternate disc ID to contribute. It is the same disc ID number... but the Disc ID's label is different... so it registers as a new Disc ID. In this case the only difference is the capitalization...
from my contribution notes:
- Alternate Disc ID... apparently the difference is cap of title in Disc ID makes it a new Disc ID. Old: CEMETERY_MAN[9D31B8A78115F4C4] New: Cemetery_Man[9D31B8A78115F4C4] | | | Pete |

I don't think it's even 3.6 really, I seem to remember 3.5 doing it as well. | | | Corey |

Do you mean it just has the Disc ID numbers, but no lettered text label displayed above/below that? Those are just really old Disc ID's in profiles that haven't been updated in years. Although some DVD's really don't have any text label in the Disc ID. Some early Warner & HBO DVD releases come to mind. | | | Corey |

Why does the Disc ID change? Is it solely related to an update in Profiler? | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

| Posted: | | | | The ID's themselves haven't changed, the way Profiler reads them has. AFAIK there were three stages: 1) short Disc ID's (something like 8 digits); 2) extended Disc ID's (significantly longer); 3) Disc ID + Disc label (addition to the extended ID of a disc, which can either be an indication of the release or generic (e.g. [DVDVolume]).
Depending on when a Disc ID was submitted to the database, you'll encounter different versions. Not sure if the short ID version is still around though - could be limited to DVDP 2.x. | | | Last edited: by dee1959jay |
