I have to support Gunnar's post - in its entirety.

Ken is NOT God, nor is it blasphemy to remark that some aspect of the program design may, in retrospect, not be the most logical. NR is in fact, not an aspect of the Medium as it apparently was designed.  It is simply a better field placeholder than Null.  If I have Null in the rating's field, in the absence of the "NR" value I cannot be sure that it really wasn't rated or if it's just that way because  nobody has yet contributed that information.

I have the utmost respect for Ken's work, but neither do I have to say that everything about DVDP is perfect. If it was, we'd never need - nor want - a new version (you can't improve upon perfection).

A valid comment, Mike. I think Gunnar chose his words poorly.

Well, Skip, if you had bothered to actually read that which you criticized you would have realized that the "totally illogical" part had nothing to do with Ken.

What I called "totally illogical" was for users to change the Rating System from Film to Television when the rating was NR. And I believe that I also fully described why that was my opinion.

I also indicated that I did understand the reasons for keeping the design as is. What makes logic from a pure database design standpoint may not always be the best choice when it comes to usability.

Well, gunnar, the problem is that Kathy brought this up about a  specific title and i think you are confused, maybe I am mistaken.

Detonator was filmed and aired as made-for-TV movie on the USA Network in 1992 (if memory serves) and had the typical large and stellar cast usually associated with any Alistair MacLean book turned into a movie. The R rating is MPAA rating, not the TV rating system, as far as I know the film never had a theatrical airing unless it was in Europe, but that would not explain the MPAA rating. The data is what it is....but I can certainly understand Kathy's confusion, and i am a bit puzzled by it, BUT it is also not the first time I have seen it. It puzzerls me everytime I see it, but it doesn't confuse me because I follow the data.<shrugs>

The MPAA website verifies the R rating is correct. It was submitted by New Line Home Video, perhaps because some rental outlets didn't used to carry unrated movies. I would agree with those who say it shoudl be listed as R. The purpose of this field is to keep track of ratings, not the originating medium.
